I have a cold. My ears have been plugged for about 4 days now. Every time I swallow I get that crackly sound in my ears. They're all stuffy.:sad1:
So I need your remedies!!!! What helps unstuff your ears?

I went to the doctor for this a couple of weeks ago because it was driving me crazy!!! He told me to use Sudafed or Claritin D to dry up the fluid and also to use neosenephrin (sp) nose drops but to use them lying down and that would dry up the fluid. I just bought the generic and it was less than $3. Hope this helps!

I always get this and have never figured out how to cure it. The best thing I can do is probably not safe, but I do it anyways; I put muscle rub behind my ears and all down the sides of my neck where I can feel my ears connecting to my throat. That actually really helps prevent my ears from getting clogged, but once they get plugged there's nothing I know of to do. :confused3

I'm already using Sudafed and Afrin.:sad1: Thanks for trying!

That's happened to me with sinus infections, not colds. When it does, my doctor gives me prednisone and antibiotics. The prednisone apparently helps alleviate the pressure....

I have a history of sinus infections and it doesn't feel like one yet.;) Keeping my fingers crossed.

Are you using the over-the-counter Sudafed PE or the original that is you must buy at the pharmacy counter and usually show ID? The original with Pseudoephedrine is the only one that will work for this and then you may have to take it for a few days for the fluid to clear. It's what my doctor always told me take. If you're using the over-the-counter, it doesn't work very well.

The real stuff. Had to show ID.
I just think if I could hear and get rid of this popping noise in my ears I'd feel better somehow.:confused3 I know it's silly.

It's not silly - it's really annoying to have that. The only other thing that worked for me was to lie with my ear against a warm heating pad for about 20 minutes and then I'd switch sides. Whether it was the heat or just lying in that position for a while seemed to give me some relief. Hope you find some soon!

I know just what you mean. I feel better sometimes when I put hot compresses behind my ears; maybe you should try that. Hope you feel better soon!

 I'm sorry. I've had that before. My DD3 had it so badly about a month ago she could barely hear ANYTHING! Both of her ears were completely blocked with fluid. :sad2: It's extremely annoying and uncomfortable. Tnankfully after a couple weeks her ears were both clear. :thumbsup2 I hope you get some relief soon!

I also use the heating pad. When my ears are really plugged and I lay on the heating pad long enough the fluid will run right out of my ear. I sometimes will even sleep all night on a the heating pad, alternating ears.
