Cold feet?

Hmmm. I did significant research that by the time I bought resale I did not have any cold feet. Only excited to get my points to book a stay.

For me, once the money was spent, I never thought about it again. It is the time where I knew "I have to write a massive check in the next month or so" that I thought "Should I really spend all this money on vacations?" Once you're a member, I think you'll never look back!
I'm so glad I read this thread. I'm in ROFR (only 18 days in) and know that whopper check will have to be written if it goes through. I have doubts because 1) It was a massive contract so a larger price tag 2) its at BCV and while I have my justifications and am sure that is where I want it regardless of the expiration date, seeing other viewpoints on threads here and on FB give me a little pause 3) I was kind of impulsive about the contract 4) I just bought 150 direct at BLT.

You know, you just get swept up in the magic. I know logically I should be doing something safer with a better return with my money. I just retired and it's been a dream of mine to travel once I made it to this point in my life. This is what I want and I'm sure I'll be so happy I did it. I just go back and forth on the logical brain vs. the whimsical brain.

This is either the best or dumbest thing we’ve ever done.
This right here. ☝

We just signed our paperwork today after thinking about this for months. Yes, feet are cold but we signed. This is either the best or dumbest thing we’ve ever done.
Ha ha ha, I feel so much the same! I held out for years, because for a long time when we were younger we couldn't afford it, and then when we could, I was like "it won't really save us money" especially as we were willing to stay at Value and Moderate hotels. But then as we got older - and the kids became teens - we realized how much we really wanted to buy in, and that sure we could stay cheaply, but we want the Villas, and then when we jumped in, we jumped ALL in. And I'm sitting here one day as we book the rooms we really want because we have the points (rather than being unwilling to spend as much as the rooms cost when I was paying cash) thinking "this was the best idea! yay!", and then the next day when I get paid and put money aside to pay for 2021 dues saying, "well, this was probably the dumbest idea, and I should have invested this money for retirement." ;-)

😂 so you’re saying I get to play this game of highs and lows for decades? 😂

BCV is an UNBELIEVABLE resort, by far my favorite of any WDW resort I've stayed at (except the YC, but BCV is very similar). You have what I consider the "dream" DVC profile having a monorail resort and Crescent Lake resort. This year I bought at Poly and BWV for that reason. You will be absolutely thrilled to be an owner there. These boards are awesome in that you get a ton of information and different viewpoints, but it can also serve as a detractor from what you want. Ultimately, owning DVC is not about an investment or where your money can be better spent. Yes, we can all take the 10's of thousands of dollars we've pumped into DVC contracts and put them in an ETF or stock market or what have you, but if you are in the position where you can put some of that money into something you love that's going to make you happy, just enjoy it!

Your "logical vs. whimsical" brain is two separate people in my house. My wife (logical), and me (whimsical) lol. I even got my logical wife on board, and it actually happened to be one of the best things we ever did financially, believe it or not. When I brought up the subject of buying DVC, she insisted that we meet with a financial planner to assess where we are. As a result, we are now aggressively funding our 403(b)'s, our kids' 529's, and have a bunch of money in ETF's, working for us, rather than just sitting in our savings account gaining 87 cents of interest a month! You have spent many years slaving away for this, enjoy it! If you get to a point where you can't afford it or something happens that you need to unload your contract, you won't necessarily "make" money on it, but you can recoup a good amount of what you've put into it on the resale market. Sorry for the book, I just feel strongly that this is too expensive a purchase to second guess yourself, because you won't enjoy it if you're constantly thinking about where else the money can be, what other resort you could've purchased, etc. Welcome home!
