Hi, We've been thinking about getting a nice cokoo clock. I remember seeing a bunch in Germany at Epcot a couple of years ago. I just glanced, and did not pay close attention.

Can anybody tell me anything about them? Do you remember how expensive they ran?

Thanks,

The shop in the Germany pavillion is called Volkskunst. There are really small ones all the way up to enormous.

I can't remember the prices but we bought a very small one that has moving parts and decoration and it didn't seem unreasonable. I want to say maybe around $30?? Of course, they go up in prices as they get bigger and more detailed.

I was pretty shocked at the prices. When I was little my mother had a cuckoo clock that my grandmother had given her. It was about 10 inches wide by about 15 inches high. I wanted to see about getting her one similar to this so I checked in the store in Germany and I want to say that to buy one about that size was 950 to 1000.00 dollars. Now, I say that that is expensive, but that might be fair price. I just have never priced cuckoo clocks anywhere before. But I figured for that price I could send her to Germany!

They have Black Forest cuckoo clocks at the Germany pavillion and they are very pricey. They run from a few hundred dollars to well over a thousand for the larger, more elaborate ones.

What you would consider a standard size cuckoo close will be at least $600 dollars.

I was drooling over the clocks in that shop but they were just out of my price range. Gorgeous though!

My DH and I bought one on our honeymoon trip (our wedding gift to each other). Ours is a basic coo-coo clock nothing fancy, its probably 15" - 18" tall, and we paid around $400 back in Sept. 1997.

Thank you all.

I'm going to check them out. Before I go, I'm going to check QVC as I've seen some really good prices on these clocks. And they are made in Germany, too.

We bought a beautiful one in December 2002 for our family Christmas present. It took us forever to decide which one to buy. We would look at them and then go outside and sit down on a bench and talk about them. It took over an hour to decide but we did and yes it was expensive but I love it. We spent $650 on the clock itself. My only regret is that we have to wind it everyday.

I have purchased two since our 95 honeymoon trip. when we were looking at them, a woman was buying THREE!. We struck up a conversation with her and discovered (which later proved true thru internet ((Al Gore had not yet invented it yet ) they are basically the same price in Epcot as they are in the Blackforest of Germany.

beaglebiz, I just know you are the kind of person I would LOVE to have for a friend. LOL!

I am always wary, ever since I bought a 'dragon dagger' at Japan for $75, only to see it at a stinkin 'flea market' type place for $15. EXACTLY the same.
