Coincidence at SSR

Last Tuesday we bought SSR. Today one of my students mentions he was "at Saratoga Springs". I perked up and asked him about it and turns out his family has points at SSR and just added on at AKV--in fact, he was staying at SSR the day we toured! If I would have seen him (or his gf, another student) I would have probably fainted--in all my trips I've never seen any students down there.
Unfortunately for him some of the other kids were saying stuff like "did you go see Mickey Mouse?" and trying to hassle him about it. In fact, they only stayed 2-3 days and didn't even do parks--just DD and Universal. He was getting a little mad--"you don't understand, there's a lot more to do down there than just that stuff." Then we tried to explain points to a couple of kids but they were getting confused, so we just switched back to "Macbeth"!

It is truly a small world! I live way up in rural Western New York. When I got back home from our last WDW trip, I was telling one of my coworkers about it and he said that he and his family were there at the exact same time! Who knew!?

Ah, that oughta show 'em.

Isn't running into students during vacation a teacher's nightmare?

Last April while laying out by the pool alone enjoying the alone time, (kids and DH were napping back at the room) I heard. "I think that is Mrs. Jones" :scared1:

It will happen to you eventually. :)

Most people just don't "get it". My dh NEVER tells anyone at work when we're at Disney b/c they just don't understand that there's so much to do.

Four trips ago (yes, four) in Oct '07 we were riding the train and a nice family commented on my daughters Tinkerbell smocked dress. I thanked them and said being from the North I have to do ebay or wait till I visit my brother who lives in Charleston SC to get them. She said, oh, we're from Charleston. Then, my brother lives in Mt Pleasant--so do we. My brother lives in Rivertowne---we live in the neighborhood across the street. Who's your brother? I tell her his name and she's like OMG my husband is on his team at Blackbaud (company) Then she's like--OH, you must be the DISNEY sister!! Small world!!

That could work in reverse also! We ran into one of my son's teachers in EPCOT one year. We are also always running into people we know all over Disney. Of course we are from Jersey and it's always during "Jersey Week" when there's a pretty good chance of that happening. :)

well, my DD's teacher will be in FL the same time we are, going to Siests Key beach on Wednesday, we'll be there Thursday but told her to come visit us at AKV since she is staying at POP for the last few days of the week.

This trip and in 07 we ran into people the kids knew from home. In 06 we did run into a teacher who had been DD#1's math teacher at Epcot--and the next fall she was DD#2's math teacher. Of course when we saw her I was nursing my traditional fiesta margarita, so I am always hoping she forgot about that!
Someday I'll probably run into a student--but I hope it takes a good long while!

My wife is a swim lesson coordinator at a YMCA and when we went to Blizzard beach one summer, she saw three of the people that took lessons from the Y. It was nice because some of them said they would not have enjoyed it as much if were not for the swim lessons.

Now THAT is cool. She must be a great teacher and should feel good knowing she helped people to not only be able to swim (a life skill I think everyone should have) but be able to put that skill to use in a fun place.

My parents once invited my 3rd grade teacher to our beach condo one weekend. I remember sitting on the dunes with her collecting seashells for a school project she had the idea for the next week. My version is still hanging on the wall at the condo.

Did I mention I went to Catholic School and my teacher was a nun? Needless to say I was a perfect angel that entire weekend. Never once gave my mother trouble lest I get sent to Hell. ;)

I wonder which student is getting an "A" this quarter?

DH is in his 36th year of teaching HS. Many years ago we were in DC on an April vacation. We ran into students and families at the hotel we were staying in, and when we ran in to a third family at the Smithsonian Zoo, Don said he'd had it and we drove to Gettysburg. WDW is the only place he doesn't mind running into students or former students. They always ask if he remembers them, and it gets hard when he taught them decades ago! ;)

tomandrobin, heaven and earth would have to shift for this kid to have an "A", he has senioritis pretty badly. But he's already signed up to join the army by mid-summer so I can't give him any crap about it as I respect his decision.

While walking on the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club last summer, I heard my name called. It was one of my students & her family!! They were staying at the Yacht Club & we were at BCV.

Talk about coincidence............Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy back on our first trip to WDW with the kids in 1993 we ran into this family on the busses quite often. We exchanged pleasantries and talked of our trip, but never really discussed home. Just never came up. Well after we got home we were in a local pizza place having dinner and who comes in? You got it, the family we talked to on the busses, little did we know we were from the same hometown. Sort of a reverse for us.

LOL!! Great way to make the kids behave all week, invite the teacher and even better have her be a nun! :)

Your incident reminded me of the time one of my students who usually had excess energy but very fun loving and I ended up at the same super bowl party at a mutual friends house. The child was a saint the whole time...so much so his parents asked if I could come to all their parties!!!! And oh yes I taught Catholic school at the time, but not a nun!

My daughter found out that her Language Arts teacher for 7th & 8th grades owns at SSR as do we. She was not too happy about it! She said, "Why did this have to happen??" Of course, if we actually ever run into her it will not be a big deal.

LOL! we were at OKW this past week and while coming out of Olivia's, DH and I each just said hello to a couple in passing only for all four of us to turn around and it was our next door neighbors from home. What are the odds? LOL, we don't see them much, both very busy and different aged- kids.

Then in tomorrowland, ran into a guy from dh's squad. I had to do a double take when I seen the familiar face again lol.
