So my dh has decided to explore the world of cognac and is considering doing a tasting on our June cruise. Does anyone know which cognacs are typically a party of the tasting? I tried searching and come up with nothing. Thanks! :worship:

You can expect to taste 4 different cognacs--frequently the late night tastings (whiskey, cognac) will have "extra" samples left over if you fancy another glass.

There will be a VS (probably Hennessy)...this is low end stuff usually more suited for mixing drinks, a couple of VSOP options (often Courvoisier and Remy Martin), and an XO (top of the line for 'regular' offerings. I have received XO cognac from Courvoisier, Remy Martin, and even Hennessy ($170 bottle at a big box liquor store) at DCL cognac tastings.

Last one I went to they let us sample a tiny quantity (literally a couple of drops) of Remy Martin Louis XIII (a $3000 bottle). That was cool.

Are these tastings always at 10:30pm? My dad went to one when we were on the Magic and really enjoyed it, though he thought it was too late for him. He'd like to do it again on the Fantasy, but the only one showing when we booked activities was at 10:30. Is it possible that there will be another tasting he can sign up for on board that won't be quite so late?

When I went there was also a 10:00 one. There may have been a 9:30 also. Unlike most of the other kinds of tastings, which are often in the afternoon, Cognac and Whiskey are often at night like this.

Thank you. Sounds like it's worth checking out when we board. I think he'd be much happier if they offered a 9:30 tasting.

My husband and dad are signed up for the 10:30 whisky one on the fantasy in April. I asked my dad if that was okay for him since it was past his bedtime. :) His response: "it will just help me sleep better".

The whiskey and cognac ones seem to be at 10 pm or later. I've never seen one in the afternoon. Disney is starting to bankrupt me. I never liked cognac, brandy, or whiskey. Now I not only like it, I'm starting to like the expensive ones. I definitely recall Couvoisier at ours, as well as Hennessey and possibly a Remy Martin. It got a little fuzzy after the 3rd glass or so. Especially since we'd just come from dinner and I'd already had a cocktail and wine. I didn't realize until near the end of that cruise (this was an 11-day one) that they had a high-end cognac and high-end whiskey tasting (both at 10:30 or 11 pm - not sure exactly). I really want to do those but I'm not sure if they offer them on shorter cruises.

For the poster asking about times, we missed the official cognac tasting on our first cruise. We happened to be in Cove Bar when it wasn't busy and mentioned it to the bartender there. He was very informative and gave us some of the same information from the tasting. We still had to purchase the drinks per glass but it was a nice "consolation prize" after having to miss the formal class.

I laughed so loud reading this post because it sounds so much like my dh!! He just discovered cognac and seems to like them so I suggested the tasting on our June cruise. He usually likes beer, wine and "girly" drinks. Just too funny because it sounds like he could wind up like you did :rotfl2:

We did the cognac tasting on our last cruise in August. There were 4 or 5 different cognacs to try. I can drink and usually more than my husband but I must say I didn't finish all of them. I think I left the one that I liked the least because it was a lot. Forgot what time it was, but the crew member left us to finish at our leisure and I know we saw the fireworks. I enjoyed it and took pictures of the bottles that I liked the best.
