My dh has to have his morning coffee. We will be on the dining plan at ASMu. Do they have good coffee? I don't know how he will be drinking it when it will be 90+ degrees, but he has to have his caffeine. Thanks!

There are only two ways to get "good" coffee at WDW.

1. Go to the Kona Coffee stand at the Polynesian (it's open in the mornings only)

OR

2. Plan to bring your own coffee and make it.

I am a coffee junky and WDW coffee is less than ideal. I prefer Starbucks over most, and I have been known to pack my own coffee and filters (or I just order from Garden Grocer).

http://allears.net/din/coffee.htm has a list of where you can get real coffee (not Nescafé) at WDW. Never having had Joffrey's coffee (which seems to be pretty widely available in the parks), I can't comment on how good it is. But at the resorts, basically only TS restaurants and the deluxes have real coffee.

We're planning to bring our own coffee and filters, but we're staying at a mod, so we'll have an in-room coffee maker. It would be harder without a coffee maker in the room (the values don't have them).

I bring a small electric tea kettle / hotpot, my own coffee and a cone filter to place over a mug. I always get the refillable mug as a souvie, but you could bring one from home as well. I take the refillable mug to the park with my coffee, rinse it out and toss it in my bag...the can use it for water fountain/crystal light packets and to fill up w/ caffiene free diet coke at night on the way back to the room.

ETA: the mug in pic was actually from DHS...not the one I used as refills...it was just in the front of the cabinet for the pic. But the setup works w/ resort refillable mugs as well. We collect alot of souvie mugs!

I always get the resort coffee and fill it with half hot chocolate. I have also given it a minute to cool and then put ice in it.

The coffee at the resorts (with the exception of the Kona coffee at the Poly) is not great. DH & I are coffee addicts. We must have at least 1 or 2 cups to start our day and function like normal people. ;) We stayed at POP. I found if I added enough sugar and cream ( or in DH's case equal and cream) it was definately tolerable. It certainly isn't the *best* cup of coffee but it does the job. We considered getting one of those mini-keurig coffee makers for the room...but honestly I didn't want to bother with the expense and hassle of packing it, buying coffee for it etc....If he is picky about his coffee, you may want to consider that for him, if not, I think he will survive on the Disney coffee. :)

Do they have good coffee?

IMO, the Value resorts do not serve coffee. They have a machine in the food court that spits out brown sludge that they claim is Nescafe. :scared1:

Take your own, or make the trek over to the Poly for the good stuff.

If you must drink the sludge in a caffeine-related emergency, drink it fast so you can't taste it. :sad2: I can choke it down when needed, but then again I also drink the cafeteria coffee at work when I have to.

The other problem with the Value resorts is that they do not have real cream for your coffee, it's creamer-like liquid that comes from a dispenser. No cows were even remotely close to the creation of this liquid.

Be afraid...be very afraid... :scared:

It's not just the Values. The high majority of coffee machines at WDW overall serve Nescafe. There are very few that serve otherwise.

BYOCoffee. Cuisinart makes a $30 4 cup coffeemaker (nice and compact) with a stainless steel carafe, so it won't break in your suitcase. I've seen it at Target and Sears. Buy it and pack it in your suitcase with filters and your own coffee. You will be so glad that you did!

There's always McDonald's. Which, frankly, is pretty good, especially compared to the stuff at WDW.

There's a McD's near the All Star Resorts.
