OK Dis peoples we are in search of a coffee pot! Number 1 thing that we need, even if it is preset to brew at a certain time it WILL NOT turn on or brew or whatever if the coffee pot is NOT under the filter!

Yep we had one of "those" mornings. . . :headache:

Thanks in advance!

PS ~ Yes I know that we should double check but sometimes life happens. . . :lmao:

I have a solution for you. I got a cuisinart coofee maker at Sam's club two weeks ago. There is no pot, you put your cup or travel mug under it and press the lever down to fill up. It makes up to 12 cups...and no dripping, leaking or other problems.

my bunn brews a pot in 2 minutes, ours does not have a preset but I don't know if they offer this on other models. We grind our beans daily, don't like to leave them sitting overnight, a preset would be useless for us. Two minute brew time is nothing, I let the dogs out and usually before they are back in I have a pot ready in the morning. It is an energy/electricity hog though. I bought a timer and my pot does not start heating up until 4:30-5am and turns off automatically at 9:30 am. (It's an always on pot, not the warmer but the water reservoir in the back is always at brewing temp, this is how it can brew in 2 minutes. It does not have to wait like other coffee makers do.)

I was also going to suggest the Hamilton Beech Brew Station. We love ours...actually I think my whole family has one now. Walmart even had them as a Black Friday special last year and I bought an extra just in case something tragic happened to ours. It can get kinda narly because the coffee stains the plastic but I use Brew Rite coffee maker cleaner....that stuff is awesome!! Makes it look brand new.

I have to vote against Bunn. While it does make great coffee if you make it correctly, if you don't follow the instructions perfectly every time, it is not very forgiving. And first-degree burns still hurt -- a lot. And the coffee is not noticeably better than the coffee I've made with several other coffee makers in recent years.

This is (the latest version of) our new favorite: Cuisinart DTC-975BKN. (Picture above.) It has no warmer element; the coffee stays piping hot in the insulated carafe for at least four hours. And the coffee never gets that "over-toasted" flavor. I love that aspect. Programmable, easy to keep clean. Makes excellent tasting coffee (which means that it gets the water up to a high-enough temperature -- that's typically the difference between good coffee from a coffee maker and great coffee from a coffee maker).

It has a cone-type filter basket, which I believe is essential for automatic drip coffee makers (and one of my biggest problems with the Bunn was that it has a flat-bottomed "Mr. Coffee" filter basket). Do note, though, that some Cuisinart coffee makers don't have the cone-type filter basket, so don't choose some other Cuisinart without checking. There are different product lines, and chances are that our good experience with this coffee maker applies only to other Cuisinart coffee makers with a cone-type filter basket. (Do keep in mind that when you grind coffee, it is typically better to grind it a little finer for cone-type filter baskets.)

One complaint: The steal-a-cup feature isn't very robust, IMHO. Be careful. And if you're very impatient, then perhaps this other coffee maker is better:

This is what we replaced. Great coffee. Also used the cone-type filter basket. The switch broke after three years, though, and repair was beyond our capabilities (and more expensive than was warranted).

Another coffee maker that makes excellent coffee (the absolute BEST) is the Bodum Santos:

The problem is that Bodum mostly makes stove-top coffee makers. Their electronics are pretty iffy. We had ours replaced three times under warranty (no questions asked; quick and efficient service, but still we were without the device for a few weeks each time). Bodum actually has discontinued the line! You can only get left-overs at this point, and they're sold-out in most places. A shame.

Wow! Thanks everyone! I've been forwarding your suggestions to the hubby! We're gonna go check them out at BB&B during the week!:thanks::disrocks:

Another vote for the Hamilton Beach Brew Station. I love mine and it makes a great cup of coffee. The best part is no glass carafe to worry about breaking. It seems the coffee also stays hotter.

A little FYI: People do NOT have to buy the more expensive, paper cone type filters to go in a cone basket. I just buy the cheapie, flat-bottomed, paper filters at the dollar store. :thumbsup2

I wet my fingers with water. Place the center of the flat bottom paper filter over the top center of the cone. Place my wet fingertips of one hand directly on the center of the paper filter and push straight down, all the way to the bottom of the cone. The flat bottom automatically becomes a "V" to conform to the shape of the cone. Since the sides of the paper filter are fluted, the sides just naturally flute around your fingers. I then take my damp fingers and push the sides against the wall of the cone. That slight bit of water dampens the filter just enough that it flattens the flutes against the walls so you can easily fill it with coffee. :thumbsup2

Yeah, it shouldn't matter whether the filters start off as real cone filters or flat-bottom filters... as long as the shape in the coffee maker is cone.
