Coffee Machine?

I realise this is a bit of a random question, but dh-to-be keeps going on about getting an espresso machine. I thought I would get him one as part of his birthday present (even though it's not that exciting!), but I'm stumped as to which one to get.

Can anyone recommend one? I suppose I would ideally spend around £50 - £100, depending on how good it was. It would have to be easy to use, easy to clean (otherwise it will gather dust in a cupboard somehwere) and make proper expresso, which he loves.

Hope someone can help!

DH and I are huge coffee drinkers, and nothing beats a freshly brewed espresso. We have a gaggia titanium machine and although it was extremely expensive, it is lasting well and produces a truly divine cup of coffee, straight from the bean.

My Mother has a 14 bar De'Longhi which is nice, and is much cheaper (around £60 I think). It's quite compact, but makes a delicious espresso and has a great steamer for producing the froth. The pressure is ideal.

We bought a tassimo machine which takes different kinds of discs (you can get hot choc, decaf and regular coffee, tea and cappacino and espresso!!) We love it as we're not great coffee drinkers and it's VERY quick. If you are particular about your coffee, I guess it's just a little like instant - but I think it's great!!!

We have one of these at our Day Nursery. I find the taste of the hot chocolate and espresso discs disgusting. The regular coffee is okay, but nothing compared to fresh brewed. Are there different brands of disc you can buy? I think we just use the ones which came with it originally. I'd like to give some others a try if they are available.

Check out www.tassimo.co.uk

I think that the discs are as they came with it... the hot chocolate is made by Suchards (it's nice mixed with a little hot milk) and all the coffees are made by Kenco and the tea is Twinnings.
