I read that the villas use the Mr. Coffee coffee makers. Do they require the flat bottom filters (as opposed to the conical ones)? Small point, but I want to bring the right filters so I don't have to go shopping!

You will get one or maybe two prepackaged coffee packs and it is pretty vile stuff. Other than that you'll need to bring your own.

They are the flat ones. I bought one of those reusable metal mesh filters for our trips. I just toss it in the suitcase. Works well for us.
