I have been reading these boards a lot lately because i need a car in a couple of weeks, this was a surprise disney trip so things are really moving quick lol!!

anyway from what i am reading some people put in 2 codes to knock the $ down on their car rental? how do you do this, & does the rental companies mind this.

thanks
cheryl

Missed that request. Thanks for the head's up HappyLawyer.

National has some good rates in 2 weeks. Call 800 CAR RENT and tell them you have discount number 5190257 and coupon number NU6. Reserve a car two sizes lower than what you want....in other words rent a compact if you want a full size, the coupon upgrades you two sizes.
It's an online coupon deal you don't have to present any real coupon.

You can do it online but you might have trouble finding where to add in the coupon. www.nationalcar.com

The fine print on the upgrade coupons I've seen always says "subject to availibility", and I'm afraid they wouldn't have a full-size and a compact definitely would not work for us. So, I've never used an upgrade coupon. Can anyone comment on the likelihood of getting stuck with the smaller car with the upgrade coupon?

Do you have any of these memberships??
bjs
sams
costco??

If so, at the stores they have pamphlets with the coupons & codes that you will need.

I was able to get a midsize for 8 days, mid september $90.88 including all taxes & fees.... with the bjs code and the coupon for $20 off.

FYI, upgrading to a bigger car does not work to get a minivan. I was so bummed. Cheapest I found was Thrifty with the code SAMS. 10 days of a full sized van for 257.00.

With the National coupon that I mentioned, your confirmation actually prints out with the higher size car confirmed...and at least in my experience (twice)...that's what you get.

I know what you mean about other upgrade deals...like with Avis you have to request your upgrade at the counter even though you've entered your coupon at reservation time.

In this day and age, with all the technology, car rental companies should have a pretty good idea what cars are available for your dates and are much better than they used to be about having that size car on hand. Nationally I've heard that most people are being given BIGGER cars than they've booked these days, because the compacts are at a premium...everyone wants them because of the gas mileage. Might not be true in Orlando where lots of families need big cars, but for me...the last 3 rentals we've had, I've reserved a compact with Avis and been offered an SUV that I didn't want! Had to "haggle" my way down to a full size!

Just a FYI, you can get BJ's discount codes and printable coupons right on the net. It is on their website under services.

Finding where to put the coupon is easy, you put in in the box labeled coupon. And it would be wise to print that coupon and have it with you, if possible.

Tracy,
The coupon for a size upgrade is in the system, they don't apply it until you get there. Actually, you don't have to ask, you simply have to present the coupon. The same applies for dollars off coupons, it is not applied until you present it.

Most rental agencies let you enter one discount code and one coupon at a time.

Using more than one coupon at a time is called "stacking" and is not usually allowed (it says so right on most coupons "Not valid with any other discount").

Stacking codes is never allowed.

The combination of one coupon and one code, however, is the most common way to get a good discounted rate. Over the last 6 years, I have used a code and coupon combination on every rental, from every agency.

NU6 is the CODE for an online coupon, it is not a printable coupon, there is nothing to print.

This is not as complicated as you all make it seem.

I always wondered the same thing and I finally figured it out today...and this poster explains it prefectly:

I know alamo offers great last-minute deals. Go to mousesavers and they list a slew of cupon *AND* "codes" that you can put in together. Good luck! :Pinkbounc

I just rented a minivan from Sept 16 -23 for base rate of $131.99!!!
The total for the week is $173!
Wow! I have never gotten such an amazing deal on a minivan before!!!
It's @ Thrifty's and I didn't even get a chance to give him a code.... he just quoted me that price. $18.00 cheaper than my code would have given me!

I just used Tracy's discount numbers and reserved a full-size car for September 25 through 30 for $150 including all taxes and fees.

She's right...it is very easy.

I also am a member of their Emerald Club and I THINK I don't even have to go to the counter...

I have to check up on that.

I love this website!!!

Wow Tracy, Thanks!! With the NU6 code I was able to upgrade our reservation from compact to full size. I've been trying to get a lower rate than my original reservation but with no luck, But I WAS able to modify my original reservation and use this online coupon. :yay:

You can go to the http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html website. They have a whole section of various coupon codes and discounts you can try with all the major rental car agencies.

And no, the agencies don't mind. Otherwise they wouldn't provide the codes in the first place. :)

They ask you not to list their link, you should remove it.
