Codes? Rack Rate? Help!

I am confused. I read that some people here refuse to pay rack rate, and then I see all of these threads for posting codes - but I almost never see a code, just posts from folks looking for them! I'm confused!

Should I just go ahead and book on disney's site? I got a rate for a package, 2 adults, 1 child at WL 5 nights w/dining for 2900.00. Does this rate sound reasonable to you? It is rack rate. Yikes!

I'm not a AAA member or AP holder. I did get the free dining this summer, so I know codes do sometimes exist. Think I'll see a code for this time period ?

You don't say when you are going. Though nothing is guaranteed if you give your dates, we can help you with historical info for that time,

Oops, sorry. Jan 30 - Feb 4. Also, I added airfare into the total to give me 2900, so it really comes out to 2527 for WL 5 nights w/dining and park hopper. Too much to pay?

The only January discounts right now are AAA, therefore rack rate is the best you will do for now. Keep an eye on the boards, for anything that may come up.

The rate you have is probably a rack rate. How did you book?If thru Disney their rates are generally rack unless you have a code for a promotion. Call AAA and inquire to see what they can do for you if you join. I believe the join rate is $69. They saved me a couple of hundred dollars by doing this. I am going to WDW around the same time as you. In the mean time I am checking here to see if a promotional code is coming out that may save me more $$ If it does I will call AAA immediately and try to have it applied. I am not sure if AAA has dining. You may also want to contact dreams unlimited (travel agency that sponsers on this site) and see what they can do for you. Ask if a code comes out if they automatically apply it or do you have to call. Ask what if you get AAA what they can do for you also. And then find the code thread for January and the thread for Febuary and subscribe to watch for the codes. When this last one came out the people who had Disney's Visa got it first, then AP (annual pass holders), then the general public.

I have had terrible luck with AAA. They just never get back to me so our membership has lapsed. I did reserve the package for 2527 on the website. I hope some code comes out so I can get it for a little cheaper.

Based on the previous 3 years, I bet'cha a deal will show up:

In 2004:
For check ins 1/1/04-2/11/04 "available to anyone" room-only code became available on 12/4/03, exp 12/29/03
For check ins 1/1/04-2/11/04 package discounts for general public became available on 12/4/03, exp 12/29/03
For check ins 1/2/04-2/11/04 package discounts for general public became available on 8/19/03, exp 9/22/03
For check ins 1/4/04-6/12/04 package discounts for Disney's Visa cardholders became available on 10/1/03, exp 1/2/04
Check ins between 1/4/04-6/12/04 package discounts for all Visa cardholders became available 10/8/03, exp 1/2/04

In 2005:
Check ins 1/2/05-4/16/05 "available to anyone" room-only code became available on 10/21/04, exp 12/1/04
Check ins 1/2/05-4/16/05 package discounts for general public became available on 10/21/04, exp 12/1/04

In 2006:
(Hard to compare this year because of the "Best Rate" early booking program that they do not offer anymore) but
Check ins 1/1/06-3/8/06 package discounts for general public became available on 11/1/05, exp 12/18/05

Of course, who knows what Disney will do, but I have faith that deals will show up!

I have been reading that the hotels are filling up so don't release your room if a code comes out, just have it applied to your existing reservation.

Okay, good. Now I feel better about reserving that room. I do feel a little guilty about paying that price, though. I'll get over it. We will have a great time!
