Codes - Is this the "calm before the storm"???

Ok folks, well let's face it there really isn't much out there right now in terms of codes. We do have AP rates that are fair and go through April 9, and a couple of REALLY crappy codes for late April into June, but that's about it. And after hearing all that we are about people not traveling and Disney shortening park hours, and based on what kind of codes we have seen in the past, don't you all think that the dam is about to break?

That's what I'm hoping for anyway. I have to believe that we are REALLY close to AP rates to get us at least through June, if not longer. And I also have to believe that there will be other general codes to come out for that timeframe that are much better than the current AX* codes.

I mean, come on, every time I go to disneyworld.com to check on resort availability for our trip in May, every type of room is coming up as available. I know there's a bunch of empty rooms right now for April, May, & June?!?!

Is Disney about to give in, and give us what we all are wanting and patiently waiting for? ;) :bounce:

What do you all think??? :D

Hey Brian

I agree with you and hope you're right about the timing. Past experience is mid March for Ap rates, so they should be here soon.

I'm just hoping that park hours and activities aren't severely cut down for May.

Just read on another thread that Hollywood and Vine is terminating their character meals due to "guest trends".

I've also been calling and calling-what I have found out is the BC STD rooms are gone for 1st two weeks in May-only wv left.

mom_rules -- those rooms MAY be gone, but they also may just be blocked out for a convention or group. We've often gotten rooms later for resorts that were previously sold out.

What I think is that it stinks that people shell out thousands of dollars for AP's and we have to wait in limo. They should either come out and say there will be no AP discount for summer or give a release date so we can geton with our lives ;)

But, I'm hoping they will be worth the wait. Chances are for me, I won't be able to use them at Movies - they seem to go quick.

I am pretty new to using these codes. Me and my DH and our two sons are planning a trip to DW in June using the AX codes. My question is it appears that there is the belief that a better code will come out hopefully hear in the near future. If they do and I already have a reservation using the AX code but any new future code would be a better price would I get the new price or once my reservation is made is that it? Also do I have to call CRO to get the credit in price or does it automatically appear onto my account? Thanks for any help you can give us in clearer this up for my family:)

Kathy

I too am hoping that the AP rates are better than the codes. The AX code allowed me to get into the WL, but I am hoping that I can further knock down the price on the trip. March 15th is almost here (this is when many have posted that AP rates may come out), so hopefully something really will happen by this date.

indymom,

Couple of things for you

1. Book now using AX codes

2. When new codes come out you have to call and try to apply new code to your ressie. No guar you'll be able to use it - it's based on availability

3. The new code most people are talking about is the AP(annual passholder) code. You must be an AP holder at time of check-in to use this rate.

can you use an Ap rate if you have booked a package? Do they apply it? Is there a code that usually comes out for package trips that compares with the "AP?

It is possible that Disney has relaized the trend of previously booked reservation holders waiting for the codes to come out and then jumping on them before incremental guests can use them. Lets face it, Disney is trying to push those that are undecided off the fence and get them to travel. They are hoping those that have booked will not apply codes to lower their room rate.

With all of the information sharing that goes on (and believe me I'm not complaining) it could be that the codes are less effective then they were in the past in terms of generating profit (there's that word again) for Disney. The new approach may be to close off sections of the resorts, reduce staff and park hours and try to get people more accustomed to paying the stated rack rates.

Please don't stone me for stating something that does not agree with what you want to hear. I'm going in May and was glad to have the AXA code which knocked a fair amount off the full price ($90 per night didn't seem so bad to me). I don't know if it is reasonable to expect large discounts but then to expect long park hours, good transportation, lush landscaping and everyone with a smile on their face.

Regards.

I agree. I don't think we will see discounts like we did in the past. It looks like most people waiting for codes now are people that already have trips planned...they just want a deluxe resort for the same rate they were paying for a moderate. (not that there's anything wrong with that) Or concierge level for what they are already paying for a regular room. It would make more sense for Disney to not release any discounts and have people stay in a lower level resort at rack rates where they will have to provide fewer amenities.

Denman--Well, I absolutely love those pictures! I have never seen anything quite so perfect! Is that your daughter--adorable!
Yes I was married at Disney in October 21,2002 at the Wedding Pavilion!

thank you denman for the information . and those pictures reeally are great!! Liz

While I agree that we won't see rates as low as in the past, I don't think there are as many people that know about the codes as you would think. Every person I have talked to about going to WDW tells me 'what codes? what are you talking about?' On my last trip in Nov '01 I had just begun to figure out the whole thing. So, maybe it isn't as bad as we think. But I do think that Disney knows we're all sitting here, with bated breath, just waiting to jump on the new rates. Maybe if we all say we're going to cancel our rooms and stay off-site they'll reconsider. LOL, just kidding.

I remember some of the things we allposted after 9-11 and the economic downturn then. I remember someone pointing out that we, all of us, as customers, were never entitled to any kind of discount and we should be glad for anything we get.

I also remember people griping about shorter hours, less services, etc, and how Disney wasn't giving us enough for our hard earned money. Well, remember, if they aren't taking in enough money to run things the way we like, then they have to cut things. Look around everyone, the economy is awful, and we have a looming threat of war. Add to that people wanting to go to Disney for the prices that are unrealistic. The less people pay the less money Disney will have to keep things the way that guests have come to expect/demand. Don't you see a bit of a vicious cycle here? I do. I remember saying then that I hope Disney will be around for my grandchildren to see (that's a while down the road, my kids are pretty young), and I don't know that its fair to bash Disney for not giving us the prices we think we are entitled to. Just MHO.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a discount and have used AXA and am waiting for AP. BUT, I wish they wouldn’t play games like this. It’s like the airlines – why should everyone be paying a different price for the same thing. It doesn’t seem fair that only the people who are really in the know (us) find out about the codes. The codes really don’t seem to make sense anymore (for Disney), since because of the Internet they are probably mostly used by people they weren't intended for.

There are only some 43,000 of us registered Disers who might know about the codes! Just think of the possibilities!:):):)
