Hello everyone. While Im not a newbie in the trip department I am a newbie when it comes to Deals and codes. These past trips I have paid the rack rate for my trips with no deals. I go right thru the Disney website plan the trip out cost wise then call and book it. This time I'm looking for a different way to do things called Saving some money LOL. I see all these great deals and one I'm mainly on the fence about is the Free dining vs the 40% off code. Can you pros tell me for 2 adults and one child who will be 9 at the time of travel what is the best way for us to go if I want to stay at all star movies on this date Sept 15-21. Cost wise which one would save me more money? I am not math wise. Can you all tell me if and when do they release the 40% off codes to the general public? Is it for your whole vacation package or just room?. As one diser to another What would you suggest I do as far as which deal to choose.
Thanks a bunch for your help.

Hi, I too used to only book what I was quoted and didnt know anything about discounts... Since 2005 I have been doing my research and help from the dis board/ emails &/or mailings directly from disney. I dont know why Disney sends out codes to some and not to others... Its a mystery and will remain that way.... My sister received a code and she has yet to even travel to WDW..We think she received it because she signed up for the dvd. :surfweb:

I can tell you that if you did receive the code for 40% off, it has been for room only but you should be able to book a package deal w/ that. I have called 4 times and received 4 different answers before I booked my package for our Sept trip (40 off room & booked dining & park hoppers). If the free dining does come out and is better then the deal that I booked, I will rebook the trip w/ the free dining.

so my best advise that I can give you, if you are planning a trip for Sept and received the code, book your trip w/ that... if the deal works out better for you when and if free dining comes out, just switch the reservation over.

I think free dining would be a much better discount because that would save you almost $90/day. Whereas the 40% is just off your room rate, not any package. But book with the 40% off now and then if you get a free dining code, switch it.

A general public free dining offer.. if one materializes .. would save you more than 40% off..

40% off would save you 40% off the room..(not tickets etc) So total.. approx 40$ a day.. maybe.

Free dining would save you 37.99 x 2 adults and 11.99 times one child... or roughly 88$ per day of your trip.

momtimesone now that you know about deals it just gets more confusing from here on! :scared:

You can book ahead and then check every deal that shows up to see if it's a better way to go money wise, or wait to see what comes out. Besides the personal PINS/codes some people get, there will be other deals that show up that you can use - like these last year for September dates:

For check ins 8/26/07-9/22/07 package discounts ("free dining") for general public became available on 4/12/07, exp 6/24/07
For check ins 7/29/07-9/29/07 room-only discount for general public became available on 6/28/07, exp 7/28/07
For check ins 7/29/07-9/29/07 package discounts for general public became available on 6/28/07, exp 7/28/07
For check ins 8/5/07-9/29/07 Annual Passholder room-only rates became available on 6/20/07, exp 9/29/07
For check ins 8/12/07-9/29/07 package discounts ("free dining") for UK residents became available on 8/25/06, exp 11/6/06
For check ins 8/26/07-9/22/07 package discounts ("free dining") for Disney Rewards Visa cardholders became available on 4/9/07, exp 6/24/07

I've been many times but even I don't know that I've ever received the absolutely best deal that I could get. Even with "free" dining, remember that for that you have to pay rack rate (most expensive rate) for your room, everybody with you has to be on the same exact package and you all must have at least a one day ticket, so sometimes when you price all this out it might be less expensive to go with a room discount.

Since you say you are not math-wise you might look at a sponsor here "Dreams Unlimited" at the top of the page. A lot of DISers use them to book their reservations (it's free to book with them) because they have a program that "watches" deals and they will automatically re-price your res to make sure you are getting the best deal (no, I don't work for them, just have read lots of smug reports where people say their agent had already checked a newly announced deal for them while the rest of us were on the phone to WDW for an hour! Here's a link to them:

Good luck whatever you decide, and remember there's plenty of us sweating the $$$ details right along with you!

:cutie:

Oh and always be sure when you go to the WDW website to check prices to click on "Special Offers" to be sure and get any deals that might apply to your dates- if there are any, the codes are already "built in" if you go in that way. :)

Just curious, what were the package discounts that came out last year?

Do they come out every year?

the 40% off my room saved me $116.00 a day!!! room rate is $325.00 per night w/ out the discount...

the 40% off saved me $67.05 per day (off moderate- orginally 167.63 (with tax) now $100.58 (with tax))... but dining would save you $85.97 (this is priced for the room at value season)... I have heard the dining is always the best discount and next are the 40% off codes.
