I tried coconut oil in place of butter in popcorn so good!! Has anyone switched totally from to butter to coconut oil?

I've used it to pop the corn and it is good. I don't use it everytime because that's not always the flavor profile I'm looking for. For the same reason I wouldn't use it as a butter replacement in everything else.

I dont know about that, but I put butter on me when laying in the sun

If you want authentic retro movie popcorn, popping it in coconut oil is the key. As far as using it as a topping, haven't tried that.

I've used it to replace butter in some recipes, you just use 80% of the amount of butter called for.

I use it to replace butter in baking quite often. It creams just like butter! But I use it by weight. Just sub out the weight of butter in coconut oil. One stick of butter, 8 oz coconut oil.

You're better off using 80% of a different oil or fat. Butter is only 80% fat and the rest is milk solids, etc. Doing a direct swap will result in increasing the fats in the recipe by 25%. That could screw up your ratios....

... or it could just make it much fattier, and much yummier as a result ;)

Now if you're dealing with clarified butter or ghee, it would be 1 to 1.

My wife gives it to our dogs regularly and they seem to enjoy it. It's done wonders for their skin and fur.

How does she "give" it? Mixing it in with food? How much? I'd be interested in give this to my dog.

She uses a small ice cube tray that measures about 1 tablespoon per cube. She puts the tray in the refrigerator where it sets up nicely. She gives each of them one of the cubes per day and the change in their skin and fur has been absolutely amazing. They really seem to enjoy them and consider them a treat. Ours are both around the 10 pound mark (Chinese Crested) and she was instructed to give 1 tablespoon per 10 pounds of dog, but you should/could talk to your vet if you want to make sure on the amount. I'm a huge fan considering how much it's helped them in the past 6 months.

Great, thanks for the info!

Coconut oil is good on popcorn....also red palm oil!! It's different than unhealthy palm kernel oil and it gives the popcorn the buttery yellow color like movie theater popcorn. Fools my kid haha
