Hi,

We are planning on a two week Disney Vacation next summer and am looking to go to the beach for a day. I have heard that Cocoa Beach is not too far away and is a good beach for kids. Was wondering if anyone else would recommend it and if there is any fun things to do on the pier other just the beach or If I should go to a different beach?

Thanks

we own condos on Cocoa Beach and always spend a few days there whether we are taking a Disney Cruise or going to WDW....it is a very, very easy drive from Orlando- take the Bee Line Highway east for about 45/60 minutes, depending how fast you drive, until you hit the ocean....

beach is very nice- lotsa of restaurants, ice cream shops on the pier....Ron Jon's is a fun place to visit...further down A1A in the actual "city" of Cocoa there's a nice place on the beach called Coconuts....all family oriented...

Thank You! Is Ron Jon's a store? Also is there a place you would recommend eating?

Ron Jon's is a giant surf shop. They have tons of swimwear, surf gear, and everything needed for a day at the beach.

Shopping in Cocoa is all your typical spring break tourist shops for the most part.

Fish Lips is great for eating, it's not downtown Cocoa, its over by the port.

There is also a really neat dinosaur shop. It's like a mini dino museum ! It's called "The dinosaur store" and it's pretty easy to find. I would post a link to their website but I'm a relatively new Disser so I can't. SOrry. We stopped three on our last trip in that town and it was a lot of fun. Also if you head as far north along the beach as you can go you can see the space shuttle launch pad/tower.

I forgot to post this earlier. One thing about the food in Cocoa Beach. It's all chain restaurants and that's about it. There are locally owned places, but the locals I know told me to stay away from them. So it really comes down to chains or nothing. I wound up settling for Long Horn myself.

yes- we have a condo so usually cook for ourselves but the few times i've been to the chain restaurants they were good.....there used to be a terrific restaurant called Moon Lading as you came into town that served great burgers and had some incredible NASA/Space memorabilia- great stuff....its now a Mexican restaurant and we've not been back...

there was also a place called Taco City just south of Cocoa on A1A that was pretty good...huge taco's....

as mentioned its a huge surf shop thats open 24 hours...more of a novelty but a place to visit....the cuisine in Cocoa is okay- Coconuts on the Beach is edible but fun, especially for the kids...

Ron Jon's offers surfing lessons for the kids. The instructors are great. You need to reserve it. Also there is a really good local restaurant right as you come into Port Canaveral on the right (I can't remember the name). Right near a minature golf. Also the restaurant/bar on cocoa beach pier is good.

Thank you for all the help I will add that to my list

Thank You, I can not picture my kids doing the surf lessons it is their first time at the ocean and they are a little weary about it. Maybe we will do the mini golf also.

Here is a link to the day we spent in Cocoa Beach with our DD7 and DD4:

My sunscreen tastes icky

It talks about what beaches we went to and where we ate lunch.

The girls had a great time just running around on the beach and playing in the water. This was their first time seeing the ocean and we thought Cocoa Beach was a great way to spend a day away from the parks.

We finally ate at Fish Lips and it was wonderful. We loved it and will be going back.
