Cocoa Beach suggestions?

I'd like to tack on one or two beach days at the beginning of our (just me and DS/3yo) Sept 2011 Disney trip and am trying to figure out the best scenario. My current options:

A. book a night or two at a Cocoa Beach hotel that offers an airport shuttle
B. book an extra night at Disney and rent a car for the day to travel to the beach
C. book an extra night at Disney and find a Disney to Cocoa Beach shuttle -- if one even exists

Please bring on the advice! What have you done? Opinions of Cocoa Beach?

going to cocoa beach is the only reason we ever get a rentl car when we go to disney

we havent stayed down there but we actauly plan it as a non park day head down to the beach ron jons and maybe swing by the space center

so my thought would be book an extra night at disney no need for park passes for that day and some time mid stay take a break from the parks and rent a car and go to cocoa beach actualy i would rent it the night before and then head out in the morning
