Coco Key Water Resort

Me too. However, it has gotten really good reviews on Tripadvisor. I have noticed two things. There website is a little "funky". You can book one night for $xx, but if you change and book for two nights the room rate goes higher. Can't figure that one out. Also, it appears there is a "resort fee", which I think is about $20 a night.

Overall I think we are staying here in April and going to Universal. We stayed at Nick Hotel last year and had a great time but Coco is slighter cheaper and looked waay cool when we were in Orlando last April (it wasn't open yet, they were still constructing the water park)

I'd like to know, too. I am supposed to be taking my Girl Scout troop there in May - looks fun and they are SO excited!

I've seen the website and want to know also!!

Looks like a all age water park themed resort.

I have read reports that the chlorine smell is pretty strong. But with over a million gallons of water,it should be expected.

We have a reservation there on March 15th....I can let you know after we return.

I looked at reviews on 3 different sites and all were good to excellent. We finally decided to book based on the crazy cheap rate through the link here on the Dis and also the location. Yes, there is a daily resort fee of $19 per day.

We got home tonight from a week in Orlando. We spent the first 4 nights at Coco Key. It was exactly as it looked. We had a great time at the waterpark and the room was fine. With the discount we got we ended up paying $100 per night including tax and the resort fee. We both agreed that that is about all it's worth though. We might stay there again but would certainly not discourage anyone from trying it.

A couple of things worth noting:
1.We had a water leak in the bathroom and when we called the front desk they sent maintenance immediately. When I say immediately I mean like 2 minutes later. This was pretty much the picture when it came to the service and staff.
2.The lifeguards at the waterpark are VERY diligent.
3. No in-room safes or fridges. We needed a fridge for insulin and they couldn't provide one.

Any questions ?????? Fire away.

Thanks for the quick review. We are headed there for 4 nites (4/17 through 4/21). I have a few questions:

1. Does the waterpark really close at 7:00 p.m.?
2. What is the best room location?
3. DId you use the shuttle provided?
4. Do any of the rooms have baclonies?

We plan to take our 2 DD to CoCo Key with a day pass 1st week of April. Any information you can share on the water park is great (water temps, crowds, attractions, etc). Our DD7 is ASD so it is good to hear the lifeguards are very attentive. :)

1. yes and they make everyone leave....the park is open longer at different times of the year. If the website says 7pm right now it might be different when you get there. When we booked it said it was open 11-4....I called and they said no that it was 10-7 and they had issues with the website being wrong. The web info comes from head office not the local resorts which is who sets the hours. They also close the quiet pool at 10pm and make everyone leave.

2. The place is really not that large so I doubt that any location could be bad. We were in building 3 which was right beside the quiet pool. I think that being in one of the rooms that are right along side the waterpark would be the least desirable though. There are no elevators and it is 2 storey so if stairs are an issue request the ground floor.

3. no

4. no balconies...it is all exterior corridor.

I'm not really sure that it's worth going if you are not staying in the hotel. The majority of the waterpark is geared towards kids over 42". The have 2 very basic slides(side by side and exactly the same) and one slightly different one that would be for younger kids. They are smaller and gentler than a playground slide. This is the area that is under the roof and also has fountain like water spouts. The water in this area is not as cold as the other parts but still a touch cool.

The area that has the big water bucket is comparable to a playground climber. The bucket bumps very little water and it's cold. This area is outside.

The 3 large tube slides are at the back along the I-4. Only 2 of the slides are operating and one is only for those over 48". What they call a "family" tube slide is a little on the scary side and that is the one that you must be 48" for. It starts with a really steep drop and then you go back up a steep wall and drop back down backwards. It's hard to explain but there weren't too many people on it....because it's scary. The water in the slides was very cold.

There is also a small pool with a little twisting slide that is between the little kids area and the water bucket. This had the warmest water but it is pretty much just a tiny pool.

The quiet pool had the warmest water of all. I think in part due to being in a full sun area.

While we were there is was pretty tough to get a chair near the water until about 3pm. The water area is large but not as big as is sounds. It was rather crowded all the time.

One other thing that we noticed was that it looked like many, many people were not watching their kids. We felt like they just turned them loose in the water and let the lifeguards watch them. We witnessed several injuries and incidents each time we were there and the lifguards were dealling with it well but we never saw a parent spring forward to get their kid after they had been plucked out of the water or even after the kid was bleeding.

Just wanted to say thank you SO much to dancin Disney style for your detailed answers. We'll be there in May, and this is our first trip to Orlando where we're not staying on Disney property -- and I'm very nervous! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

And thanks to momtolittlered for starting this thread, too! :goodvibes

You are very welcome. Don't be nervous about staying at Coco...just don't expect it to be the Ritz either. It is a good 3 star property that is well maintained and well located. The breakfast buffet was quite good and worth it especially if you have kids under age 12....they will eat free. There are plenty of places to eat that are walking distance. There is a CiCi's directly across the street and the huge McD's around the corner on Sand Lake Rd.

This was also a departure from WDW for us. It has been approx 14 yrs since we stayed away from WDW. I'm glad we did it but when we moved to the Hilton Bonnet Creek for our last 3 nights I was sooooo happy to, sort of, be back at WDW. It also has made me really excited to be back onsite in August. However, I might reduce our WDW stay to get a few nights in at the Hilton BC again....it is fabulous!!!!

Thanks for the info! For us this was a budget-based decision as much as anything. It looked like a neat little waterpark and it just wasnt in the numbers for us to do the big parks. :(

I know that you can only buy the day passes online. I don't remember the price...I think either $10 or $15 per day. At $10 per day it would be just alright....any more than that and IMO you would be wasting your money. It certainly is not a full day type of thing.

Here's a thought for you....
You can get fantastic rates for the Hilton Bonnet Creek from lastminutetravel.com The rate is often $80. The HBC has a great pool area that includes a waterslide, lazy river, activities poolside and they play music all day. I would book a few nights there to get the use of the pool. For me it would be a better way of spending my dollars...you get accommodation and all the facilities. It's a 4.5 star resort and well worth any price.

That is a good rate! However, we are going down this Friday (Apr 1st) and already have arrangements. We have a friend who has a condo we are using. The day passes we bought were $15/day. Our kids only spend a few hours at water stuff so that was the cheapest 'out' for us. Bonnet Creek does come highly recommended though - we'll definitely have to consider it when the economy turns around. Thanks again! :)
