Cobra 2 way radios question

I bought 2 Cobra 2 way radios at Walmart when they had them on sale in the fall. At the time I thought they would be a good idea because I am going to WDW with DS 25 and DD 20 and I thought that if we split up or if they went on a ride I didn't go on that we could hook up easier if they had a way to communicate with me. DS just asked me if we pack them in the suitcase or in the carry on. He thinks security will question them. I would rather have them in the carry on and explain them to security than have my suitcase opened because they see something on an x-ray. Has anyone had any experience taking this type of communication device with them on the plane?

I am sure we put them in the checked bags and had no problems with them
