Hi all

I have been posting on the UK forum, as it made sense to liaise with my fellow countrymen (and women) about our trip next year.

It then dawned on me that if I plan a 5 week cross US trip next year, why not speak to the people that know? You splendid American folks.

There will be six of us, myself, good lady wife 2 daughters (18 and 16) daughters friend (18 while we are there) and son and heir, 11.

We have been to your fantastic country on a number of occasions and always want to come back.

We will be visiting in July/Aug 2015 and the only remit really is that we would like to end up with 2 or 3 weeks at WDW in Florida. I want to drive coast to coast, East to West or West to East.

I cant see that driving NY-Calif-Florida is a good idea in anyones language. So we thought Calif-Florida, but we then miss NY, which we all love.

In 2012 we stayed for a week in NY then drove down to WDW via, DC, the skyline drive and blue ridge parkway, which was fantastic.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oooh, just realised you may not be out of bed yet. I can wait.........

Thanks

Steve

:welcome:

Why not drive from NY to FL or vice versa?

Either do:

Calif/NY/Florida or Calif/Florida/NY

or start on the east coast either in NY or Florida and then drive the coast to the other and then to Calif?

What else do you want to see and do while you are driving?

Maybe look at what you want to do on your way across the country and decide if you want to do other stops mostly in the north or in the south. Then that will help you decide if you should go cross country to/from NY or Florida.

A good place to start would be your local auto club. They may be able to give you some ideas on routes to take depending on just what you want to see while travelling. Keep in mind it'll take at least a week of driving, not really site seeing to drive across the US. I think I've driven just about all the major highways east west and a good many north south in this country. Still have a few more to go but I'm getting there. Going from CA to FL I like starting with the 40 in CA and then dropping down to the 10 in Mississippi to the 75 in FL. We'll be driving from ND soon. Checking out where there may be road construction that would slow us down or mean a detour. Weather will be another factor for us. I also want to make hotel reservations. So much to take into consideration but what fun. Road trips are the best.
