So I had parent/teacher conf. with my 7 yo's teacher this morning and told her of our upcoming trip and she said she was raised in Anaheim and went to DL often and will always remember how if you ask them where a bathroom or something was that they weren't allowed to point with 1 finger but they have to point with 2. I got a chuckle out of this and am wondering if this is still true? Does anyone know? If so I think it's great that they still pay attention to the little things like that. It's what makes DL so dang special!! :lovestruc

Yep, still true. CMs will always point with either 2 fingers or an open palm.

Interesting that several years later, your child's teacher remembers that small detail. That's what makes Disney Disney, huh?

My cousin was in the CP a couple of years ago at WDW and this was the case there. He said pointing with one finger was considered offensive-he was trained to use 4 fingers with the thumb tucked in.:rotfl:

This thread reminds me of a picture one of my son's took. They were sure Jiminy Cricket was flippin' them the bird. He obviously is not, but what can I say, I have teen boys and they thought it was funny.

I've read CMs saying that you're actually supposed to use your whole hand, but most just use the two fingers.

It's only offensive if you point with the wrong finger! Anyways when In DL last week I specifically noticed that they would point with an open palm or all 4 fingers.

I think it has more to do with people misinterpeting one finger. There was a lady who complained that Jack Sparrow swore at her son when he said "nice ship", so Disney instructed him to say "nice boat" instead.

:rotfl: :rotfl: That is just too funny.

I've noticed 2 fingers, 4 fingers and all 5 being used. I always wondered why nobody used 1 finger. Good to know!

I used to work at a museum popcorn:: and we were instructed the same way; to use an open palm so as not to offend anyone. ;)

Yes and think of flight attendants indicating where the exit doors are. Pointing with one finger is considered rude. (Traditionally - I realize most of us do it!)

Now that I think about it, my high school principal always used to point with 2 fingers and I always wondered why she did that....

My husband has always pointed things out with two fingers instead of one. I always laugh because it reminds me of flight attendants.

i remember being told that open Palm is disrespectful...

so 2 finger point is the way to go... :D
