Tuesday while having lunch at the GFC my DH & I were told by a CM that Disney is really making cutbacks (again) and has ended all graveyard shifts for maintence & groundskeeping. One of the many reasons we have loved WDW for so many years is because it is so clean and beautiful, the news made me sad & confused:confused3

Did they do this a few years ago? And then bring it back after people complained about the status of upkeep?

Yes...sorry I left that out. Also this CM has been there for many years so we always catch up on the inside news and this really disappointed us:sad2:

Why the cutbacks? They announce a good profit.

Did the CM say why the cuts? Seems like the hotels are full, restaurants are full, parks are full:confused3 I was wondering if it is because Disney cannot find enough help? I remember when the parks used to be the cleanest place I had ever seen.

That is alot of it as per the CM, she also told us that now they are "encouraged" to bring home their costumes and clean them at home so they can save $$$$$ on laundering. I remember that CM's were never allowed to wear them home.....in & out in street clothes to keep the Magic.

Depending on what park you worked at, CM's have always been able to take their costumes home. I know at MK they weren't allowed to do so, at least not when I was working there. I'm not sure how it worked at the resorts, however.

It does save Disney $$$$ plus the CM knows for sure that the costume they put on is clean! :)

I bring bad news too. Disney is having a hard time hiring enough people to work. :\

They need to raise their rates so they can get wonderful CMs. I understand they have cut on many of the perks so the people that have been there a long time are also leaving which is bad news.

There has been a lot of coverage on the news in the Orlando area. Last I heard they did not cut out maint and groundskeeping on the graveyard shift, they outsourced it to an outside company like they did valet. So the work is still being done, they are just not Disney CM's doing it anymore. Which is not any better, that they took away CM jobs, but the work is still being done overnight.

:sad2: That's really sad..we just came back from the world about 10 days ago, and everything seemed cleaned still except some of the bathrooms I went in were actually pretty nasty. I was really surprised because like everyone said, Disney is always so clean and neat. If there going to do cut backs, then what else will suffer? I know bathroom duty isnt one of my favs either, but someone has to do it.

oh my! I've never really seen a dirty bathroom at Disney! How can it be? And I'll be going down with a 4 and 2 year old this time. .

I know..either have we in all the years we were there, this is the first time. THey were not all dirty but there were a few that we went into that I thought looked pretty bad. There was one in MK by the Peter Pan ride. The restroom had toliet paper stuck to the floor here and there, the floor was really wet in some spots:scared1: not sure what that was, also the floor was sticky in spots as well. My DD had flip flops on and actually had one stick to the ground and she walked right out of it! I had to go from soap dispenser to soap dispenser before I found one that actually had soap in it. There also was toliets that were clogged with "stuff" and were unusable. That was probably the worse bathroom by far that we saw. Hopefully they'll get a handle on that.
