Do CM's perform multiple roles on the ship? For example, could you see your room attendant in the evening show? Do servers only work in the restaurants/cafes, or do they do other duties? For some jobs, like servers and house keeping, I can see those being all day jobs, but for the show actors and actresses, are they doing other things during the day?

I know the night servers also work all day long in various places. We'd see our server, Clive working at Topsiders or lunch at Parrot Cay (seafood buffet, YUM). I think they only get 2 meals "off" during the week so they're working pretty much non-stop during the day.

We noticed that one of the male dancers in the shows was our life boat leader. Also, our Palo server mentioned that she works in the food stands on Deck 9 (Scoops, Plutos, etc.) occasionally.

Our Palo's server was at Topsiders on disembarkation day -- he shocked us that morning.

And the guy who led some of the board games events was also a character accompanier.

But I think the performers are performers and servers are servers -- they may vary in assignments, but their basic duties are the same. I don't think your room steward is Goofy during the day, for example. :D (Well, he may be goofy, but he's not Goofy).

I know that the servers work in the other food service places during the day, same thing with the Palo servers.
The room stewards work 14 hours a day (yes doing rooms) our room steward, Darwin, told us he does 12 guest room and 2 CM rooms. He also told us he gets a certain amount of time off in ports...in St Thomas it was an hour.
And cruise staff, like Que, Travis and SiSi are everywhere....I think they wear the most hats. You will see them in the bars at night, at the deck parties, at tours and games, and even as character accompaniers.
We saw a favorite CM, SheShe on the first day, she was with a character...but we didn't see her at all after that, we thought maybe she IS a character now.

DisneyNutMary....we love sheshe too! She is great!I just saw her a few weeks ago and she told me she was promoted. She did saw a specific name but not sure of the exact job. Something with the characters :)

During my March '03 cruise on the Wonder, I noticed the ship's nurse did double duty as Alice (the character). And to think I got a shot in the **** from her. :teeth:

You had to pay to "moon" a Disney character!!:earseek:

THe actors / performers do man the safety drill on embarkation day. You know how much actors love a captive audience, so it was a natural fit for DCL to use them in this way.

I've seen our "head waiter" (you know the guy/gal that comes around to your table once during the cruise and says "Hi, my name is Robin, please tip me on your way out of the restaurant") bussing tables up at Topsiders (every morning of our cruise-except for the character breakfast)

I know at Castaway Cay the Palo servers were serving the Ice Cream from the machines.
Donna that does the onboard cruise bookings was sitting at the information booth in the Centre of Castaway Cay.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I wonder if any one who was a server during rotation dining ever served the same couple at Palos. Wouldn't that be funny? Did I make sense???

Not on the same cruise.

Your servers rotate with you, so they won't be working Palo since they need to be in the dining room serving their section.

I can't imagine how it would happen during dinner time, but I suppose it's entirely possible for brunch or tea.

An HOUR off??? I've been wondering, when are the poor CMs off? Do they ever get the whole day or a few days? I would think they would burn out VERY quickly if not.

Whole day...few days...nope!!!
A few precious hours, maybe a morning or evening.
Disney is actually one of the better cruise lines to work for, but the CM hours would still put most of us 9 to 5-ers over the edge!

We noticed that the entertainment cast switches out of roles quite often. Some of the dancers are face characters, and others escort the characters for appearances.

I have a cousin that works on Carnival--she's a dancer in the shows--when she is not dancing--she is doing the horse races or bingo games and such--basically any gaming activity done in the showroom--that would be her duty--but as a performer on that ship--she does get time off pretty much in every port. She loves it though b/c she is doing what she loves--dancing.

Does DCL performers do that as well, anybody know?

Off-the-topic re: time off.

I used to work the Sears in Merritt Island and on PC days--you would see alot of crew members (from all lines--not sure who would be from what ship)--so if anything--since the passengers are switching out--I think that would be their big "off" day/morning/afternoon so to speak.

Watching a cruise "behind the scenes" show on Travel channel--most ships have a crew "fun" area where they have dance music, super cheap alchohol and their own fun--so they do get some wind down time--probably not alot since in their off time they must catch a few zzzz's. They aren't "on" 24/7 though. Even the captain of the ship will take some breaks to sleep, eat, et cetera.

I worked as a perfomer many years ago at Club Med, and let me tell you, I could not keep up with the long term staffers as far as their "off hour" socializing went. I don't know when these kids slept, but I was too old for that even when I was in my 20s. However, when we weren't performing, the Club Manager would ask us to go on excursions with the guests as social hosts. Let's see, would I mind going snorkeling with the guests and keep them entertained...uh...no.

Fun job. Great times. Very glad I did it....couldn't imagine doing it as a long term career though.
