Spoke with a CM in Guest Services the other day regarding an issue with my ressie and I brought up the Contemporary and the ongoing construction. I believe I referred to it as the "new unofficial, DVC resort" and he said this was a very unlikely scenario. He stated that the North Wing was "old and in complete disrepair, with tons of mold and other issues that needed to be addressed and so it needed to be knocked down and built back from the ground up."

He said that the new Villas at AKL were already costing a bundle and because of this the Contemporary would most likely not become a DVC resort.

Interesting. Perhaps this is old news? I haven't been around much...

It was announced in an article in the Orlando Sentinel a couple of weeks ago that it's going to be DVC. The Kingdom Towers.

Afraid he was wrong on this one. There will be a dvc at the contemporary. It will be called kingdom towers. Here is the link.

Every Cast Member I spoke to at the Contemporary said it was going to be a DVC building and the fact that it was mentioned in the Orlando Sentinal about being a DVC building. So in this situation I think the Cast Member you spoke to was wrong.

I was at CR on Tuesday, and walked out back to look at the tower construction. It's clearly not just the old North Garden Wing being rebuilt. It's an enormous, C-shaped tower, already up to 9 stories, that looks just like the artist's rendering that the architectural firm posted on their site a year or two ago.

That CM was messin' with ya. ;)

He must have known I was a DISer and wanted to see if I would be dumb enough to post about it....:lmao:

Told ya I haven't been around for a while....:rolleyes1

It's just yet another example of this phenomenon.

The CMs you speak to on the phone at the Disney Reservations Center when you call 407-W-DISNEY ... they are notoriously WRONG when they speak outside of their training. They are trained to be experts, authorities!, in three things: resort reservations, dining reservations, and ticket sales.

Beyond those 3 areas, you'll get better information here on the DIS than you will by calling 407-W-DISNEY. Many of the CMs who work there aren't even in Orlando! Some are in Tampa, some are in the midwest and Texas! Most of those have never even been to WDW!!!

His logic doesn't magic any sense. With so many people buying DVC contracts at one time, you'd get more money sooner than if you just rented out the rooms.

The only thing that could possibly keep this from becoming a DVC property is the concern that as long as they're selling Kingdom Towers, they cannot expect to get anyone to purchase at Saratoga Springs.

Can the price of CR's DVC be more expensive than SSR, or does DVC membership always cost the same? I know that usually they sell out one resort before opening another for sale at an increased price (I think, not 100% sure) but then they sold AKL with SSR still available. Is AKL sold out? Was AKL more expensive than SSR?

The price of CR's DVC can be, and most likely will be, higher than SSR. The buy-in price per point increases regularly. This is a premium location, and people will be willing to pay a premium price for it.

SSR and AKL are not sold out.

Oh man, this baby is going to be pricey. There have been a great many folks who have been sort of holding out in hopes of a Contemporary dvc, couple that with the primo location and I'm willing to bet my ridiculously low salary that it will be a lot more. :rotfl:

I'd purchase at SSR long before I'd ever purchase at Kingdom Towers.

The reason the CM said that is probably because there has been no official announcement from Disney, so as of now they only official word is that it's just a new tower.

If you check out that Orlando Sentinel (who is notorious for hating Disney and being wrong about Disney stuff, lots of CM's I know call it the "Oralndo Slandernel) article it even says that there was no announcement, but they got the information from legal paperwork.

Not saying it's not true, it's pretty obvious from the legal paperwork Disney has filed, but since there is no "official" announcement, CM's arent allowed to say that it will be DVC.

Thanks for the answers, Eliza and Bicker!

Is AKL more expensive than SSR?

If memory serves, when they began selling AKV, it was at a higher price than SSR had been selling for, but they then raised the price for SSR points.

I'd bet serious money that the price per point for CR will be higher than AKV or SSR.

I spoke to a sales CM for DVC yesterday. I mentioned the Kingdom Towers. He said that it was something the newspaper was having fun with and there has been nothing offical to say that it was going to be DVC. I think that he was just trying to sell me on Saratoga!

He's lying. Either he doesn't know, or that he just wants you to purchase AKL.
Disney is trying to sell out of AKL and SSR before they start selling in KT.

No, he's not necessarily lying. It's absolutely true that Disney has made NO official announcement about a DVC resort at CR, and until they do, the sales people are not allowed to talk about it, or to sell it. Simple as that.

Yes, they've filed for permission to sell timeshares there, and they've gotten that permission, and that was reported by the Sentinel. That does not constitute a formal announcement or offering by Disney Vacation Development.
