I found this on another site. Apparently WDW is hiring and the following is what they pay...

Quote...

Attractions: $6.80
Transportation: $9.15
Food And Bev: $6.80 + .50cent pream.
Characters: $6.95, Attendant, $6.85
Magical Express. $7.50
Custodial: $6.80. +$1.00 3rd shift
Housekeeping. $6.80 +.35 pream
Lifeguard: $7.40
Sales Merch: $6.80
Ticket Seller: $6.80
Vac Planner: $7.25

They work so hard for so little. :confused3

First I agree wholeheartedly, they work so hard, for so little, and they give of themselves, providing magical experiences of a lifetime.....

Now I look at that list, questions pop in my mind over and over... tipping... see, I just want to tip everybody to give them the incentive to provide magic to kids! I read on the Transportation thread that you should tip the Magical Express... but then you look and see they are making so much more (*cough not really) :confused3

Dont get me wrong, I'll still continue to joyfully tip Mousekeepers... but why shouldnt the counter service add a "tip jar" like Starbucks!! :confused3 And can you imagine tipping those Lifeguards!! I mean really, that is such an overlooked position (i was a lifeguard, my ds's are lifeguards) standing, changing positions, but you still have to know your first aid, CPR, and the new paddles for heart attacks (forgot what the call those Defibilators!)

OK how many thought of bringing lots of singles, and just slipping in the tip....

OK< I'm sorry, dont mean to offend.. its truly not a laughing matter, but truly... :confused3

I'm sorry, but those wages are a little insulting. Especially considering what Disney pulls in. You can hardly live of wages like that. If these were high school kids for a summer job, that's one thing, but you can't expect to survive off $6/hour.

Awww :( I suppose I'll still get a job there regardless :( They need to get paid A LOT more, though!

Those actually might be higher than wages at other theme parks? Does anyone know? It's considered a job like foodserver or something. Cashiers at McDonalds get about $6/hr and look what McDonald's pulls it for $$$.

I am really shocked at that!! and I complain about what I get paid for my job........Why do the bus drivers get more money? seems like they have an eaier job ?

that's got to the bear minimum wage. I dont know how even teenagers would want to do that. You make an extra 10c to be in a godawfully hot costume then your attendent does. THAT STINKS! Looks like the best money is in transportation. Sign me up as the next monorail "driver"

I did the College Program and got paid those wages and I can tell you, it is not easy living off 6.95/hr. I was just a college kid blowing money and I can imagine trying to feed a family off wages like that. I agree they really need to up their standards, however when you get to thinking about all of the people they employ, it would be a significant amount of money for them to do this. Even the professional people don't get a paid a whole lot from what I understood. :sad2:

My Friend's aunt works for Disney and she has for over 15 years. He says she makes about $14 an hour, not alot considering how long she has been on the job but he says the benefits are awesome. Medical, 401K, dental, life, the free tickets CMs get, plus subsidize housing. I know my health insurance is now almost $500 a month (2 operations). He also said she gets great discounts all around town. If she's been doing it for so long there must be a reason why. She is a secretary.

I believe bus drivers are paid more because they have to have a special license to operate a vehicle with passengers in it, and to also operate a vehicle that utilizes air brakes. They need either a CDL (commercial driver's license) class A or class B, I'm not sure which. Because this involves specific "skills," I believe that is why they are paid more. Actually, I'm surprised that the pay for bus drivers is so little. In this area, CDL drivers are offered jobs STARTING at $12-$13 per hour ...

I always knew the pay was diddly....but seeing that whole list of underpaid, overworked CM's is really kind of upsetting. It is insulting to pay folks so little & expect them to be Magically Perfect Onstage all the time.....

I have said this on threads where people complain about less than Magical CM's - It's a Miracle that so many of the CMs are so wonderful & thoughtful when many of them have to work 2 jobs just to survive.....

Actually, I'm a little ashamed right now to be a Disney Stockholder ..... :sad2:

I imagine they get raises. I'd like to see the range of wages for the positions.

That is good money, considering Florida is not a minimum wage state, and the federal minimum wage is only $5.15 a hour. The only states, according to statistics by the federal government, where the minimum wage is over $5.15 are those states bordering the Pacific Ocean, the New England States minus New Hampshire, and Delaware, Illinois, and New York.

And, I don't know how it is now, but in the past, Disney did pay its employyes more then the other theme parks.

Its true, the College Program gets those wages, but my DF has family that works at WDW--her aunt is a wig dresser (kinda like a hairdresser, 'cept the hair is a wig), and her uncle is a bus driver. Apparently, when you become a full-time WDW employee, the benefits are awesome (full medical, dental, life, etc.) and if you move up the chain (into a management position) wages go way up.

Keep in mind that while you don't make much working the college program, the big benefit is--YOU GET TO LIVE IN DISNEY WORLD!!:earsboy: :goodvibes I definitly considered signing up--I even went through the recruting process at my university, but taking a semester off wasn't worth it to me in my long-term goals. Had it been available for just the summer months, I would've gone in a heartbeat--low wages or not!

I could have swore that I read somewhere that Universal and Sea World had a better pay scale than Disney..

Much as I love Disney, if the others paid higher, I wouldn't be opposed to working PT seasonal for one of them..

Anyone know where we could find that info?

Florida recently voted to have a minimum wage, I believe it is $6.15.
As for benefits those seem to decrease each year. Like most companies they are putting more of the insurance cost back on the employee. Raises range from .25 to .50 per year. As for free tickets, the numbers and frequency have decreased, plus they have been putting restrictions on when you can use them. Remember too that WDW is open 365 days a year and the hotels 24 hours a day. Unless you have a ton of seniority you dont get the holidays off. Discounts are minimal for purchases and food. They really have gone to alot more seasonal and part time employees to get away from costly benefits. That is why you will see a mass number of cp cms. They are cheaper plus they pay disney their rent. Many of the cms have roommates and live in apts nearby that are govt subsidized. They just cant afford rent.

Oh - and about the housekeeping positions.. Do they get to keep all of their tips? If so, the pay scale isn't as low as it appears at first glance.. I've heard many here on these boards say that they tip $1 a day.. So that's $5 a week, per room.. I would assume that each housekeeper is assigned a minimum of 15 rooms per day (although I suspect it could go as high as 20 or more).. If you add that to the figure quoted here, it really averages out to about $8.67 an hour (based on a 40 hour week).. Take away the people who don't tip at all, add in the ones who tip more, and it doesn't appear quite as shocking..

My guess is that information is the lowest end of the scale and like any other jobs like those that AREN'T at Disney you start off low and work your way up higher.

I honestly can't imagine THAT many people working for disney if they ALL made those type of wages. I do think though that most of those wages are "ok" for people starting out....college program kids and all.

Those are starting wages ad I am sure there are increases as well as promotions. When you look at the number of people it takes to run WDW ... I can't even imagine the cost of that!

If wages go up, guess where that will come from?!
