My photography club (Woodlands Photo Club) had an interesting educational outing today. We met at a park where we went through 5 rounds of shooting. We broke up into separate groups. Each group had an experienced shooter that acted as a facilitator. The groups were primarily organized by camera maker so that they could easily help each other by swapping techniques and gear.

We had 5 stations where we spent about an hour shooting. The stations were a portrait studio with background and lights, a volleyball court, a classic picnic, kids playing at the park, and some costumed people out on a bridge near the woods.

Here are a few of my shots from the day.

I put together a quicky slideshow (requires Windows) here.

It was a lot of fun and everyone learned a lot. If you are learning photography, I encourage to look into local photography clubs. I've been involved in a few and they been really fun and helpful. Most clubs have a members with a wide variety of shooting skills, so don't feel like you aren't ready to join. Our club president this year is using her first DSLR (D40x) and several people show up on outings with point and shoot cameras.

Great pictures...being from Ohio, love those Cardinals!;)

Lovely shots.

I like the volleyball shot best. :thumbsup2

We didn't have any real volleyball players for that part of the shoot. We tried working with a few older kids, but they didn't really know how to play. To get the shot I wanted, I took Jamie (www.suburbanchicphotography.com) and put her on a ladder. One of the other shooters tossed the ball up to her to spike. In hindsight, I think she's too high up, but the shot still works for non-volleyball savvy viewers.

But thats cheating..............;)

AHA!!! Now we know how Mark always has such great photos! And all along I thought he was a great photographer.....;)

(P.S., those ARE great shots!)

I didn't cheat! That's supposed to be a picture of a woman standing on a ladder hitting a volleyball over a net. I just forgot to include part of the ladder. I can see how some viewers would misinterpret it, but that's not my fault!
