Anyone want to venture a guess at what people would pay for Gymboree and Baby Gap clothing for young children at a yard sale? I know I would get more for its' worth on e-bay, but I never seem to piece together the time to follow through with that idea.

In my area, it doesn't seem to go for much more than anything else.

These days I will sell at a garage sale the stuff that I bought used on e-bay (thus, it has gone through at least two children) that looks more worn. I have not found it worthwhile to try to sell nice items for more at a garage sale. I have advertised brands in my ads (Gap, Gymboree, etc.) but people are really only looking for deals. I find that they are only willing to spend maybe a dollar more because it has Gymboree on the tag.

I personally hate it when I go to a sale that advertises "name brands" only to find totally worn out, 10 year old lines that are way over priced simply because the tag has Gymboree on it.

IMO I would either sell it fairly cheap at a garage sale or give it to a friend to use if you just want it out of the house, or I would try to make the time to sell it on e-bay. I know I have a bunch of stuff I need to put on also!

Good luck!

I always get more for name brand stuff, as long as it isn't too old. I only put clothes in my sales that are in good, clean condition. I ask, for name brand, $2 per shirt, $4-$5 per pair of pants or jeans, $4-$5 per sweater. If you have any complete outfits, hang together, pinning any socks or hair accessories to the outfit. Some people are looking for only .25 to 1.00 play clothes, and I have things to accomodate them, but LOTS of others are moms like me who prefer nice clothing for their children and recognize that $8.00 for a complete Gymboree outfit IS a bargain!

I'm having a yard sale this weekend, and pricing has been an issue for me too. My DD has tons of name brand & boutique clothing (bought used), but in excellent condition. In fact, some I bought at a yard sale NWT, and she never wore them. I'm pricing complete sets $4-$10, shirts/pant $1-2, pants, shoes (stride rites, keds, l'armour) $5-10 some are new in box. My DD wears smocked dresses on a regular basis but they are very well taken care of. Those are priced between $10-$20. I do however have lots of clothes for 25 & 50cents. I know for me, I love to buy EUC name brand clothes for $5/outfit. Call me crazy but for a brand new with tag smocked dress I'd fork over $20 at a garage sale. Will see, if it sales it sales if not, I'll haul it all over to the consignment store. Haven't done that yet b/c it's 35 miles from my house. Good luck with your sale.

well I know in my area people want things basically for free. I dont buy name brands but i do buy dd nice clothes from Mervyns, khols, jcpenny and sears cute clothes. I sell the tops for .50 and pants (jeans and codoroy for 1.00-1.50) Some of the clothes were only worn a few times. people try do offer me .25-.50 and when i say no. Then they grab a bunch of stuff and end up giving me what i ask .I've even had new stuff with tags i ask for a couple of bucks for those and people will 1.00. I say no. Many are ok with 50- 1.50 but my area is cheap.

As a general rule, yard sale clothing should be priced at $1 or less -- well, coats could go higher. You're counting on the right person with a child the right size coming along on the one morning you're putting things out. If you don't price things really low, you'll be carting them back into the house. A yard sale is not the place to sell like-new name-brand clothing.

If your things are too nice to sell for $1, put them on ebay or in a consignment store. Around here a couple churches have nice twice-a-year consignment sales, which price things fairly (but much higher than yard sales) and you keep 60% of the price -- that's about the best deal around for quick sale/good price.

I have not had much luck with name brand merchandise at garage sales. My daughter mostly wears Gap. I ltried to sale cute matching outfits that were not worn at all. No one wantd to buy them. They would rather buy the cheap stuff. I didn't mark anything expensive either. I couldn't believe it.

When I have had garage sales they are usually for charity. I get all my friends to donate their old items. My family will usually have a team for American Heart Walk so this is where all the money goes. My main objective is to get rid of all the clothing. I just put a big sign up saying "All clothing $0.50". When it gets close to being over I drop the price down to a quarter. When I shop at garage sales I don't like to pay more than $1 for clothing unless it is in excellent condition and then my limit is $3. I really want a bargin when I am shopping in someone's garage ;) . Then again I may be one of the "cheapest" DISers on this board. If you look at some of my posts you will see a trend. :rotfl:

Around here, kid's clothing, name brand or not, won't get more than a dollar or two. I'm having a garage sale in a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping I can get $10 for leather coats! People here just want big bargains.

I put out 2 Talbots outfits (dress pants and shirts). NOT EVEN A NIBBLE!
I was selling them for 5 bucks a piece. ( they cost 100$ per outfit new and were only worn a couple of times and dry cleaned each) What's up with people? I would have snapped them up. Also put out 2 new pairs of black dress shoes (worn for 4 hours) and nothing??
I just gave them to a friend whom I know would use them and decided I won't ever try to sell clothes in my yard sales again.
Good Luck in your upsoming sales!

I sold a bunch of my DS's summer clothes (all the same size!) because I was too lazy to put them on Ebay. There was some GAP, Tommy, Old Navy, and then Target stuff. Everything went for 25c each. People around here want everything for free basically. It was my goal, at that point, just to get rid of them. I made a couple of bucks, but could have probably done better on Ebay had I not been so lazy! LOL

I hate the hassle of a yard sale. I usaully give really nice clothes to a neighbor or friend. All others I take to goodwill.

A large part of what you can sell something for at a garage sale is determined by where you live, not just the city, but the neighborhood. At the extremes, you don't expect to pay much for something sold at a yard sale in a trailer park, and do expect to pay more for things sold in a gated community filled with McMansions... It doesn't really seem to matter as much on brand as it does where you are selling. I'm convinced someone could make a living if they had access to a garage in a upscale neighborhood by simply buying junk at a flea market and then having a continual garage sale... perception seems to matter more than what the thing actually is or cost new.

I know, in our area, the best place to get a decent price for brand name is by selling it on kijiji (online classifieds). There are also some facebook sale groups but people seem to want to pay less on those.

I wouldn't pay more than $1 kids clothes at a yardsale, name brand or not.

For things like fancy dresses, suits, coats, etc you could probably get away with more, but I wouldn't price more than a $1 for the regular clothes. JMO but my yardsales are about getting rid of stuff not making a huge profit. If you want a better profit, you can try the Ebay/Craigslist/consignment route.

If you shop around, you can buy new clothes at departmnet stores for under $5. I wouldn't spend more than a $1 on used clothes from a garage sale. JMO
I have started to just give clothes to charity, we don't make enough money for our time at a garage sale.

Absolutely! That was going to be my exact point. I don't go to yard sales so I don't know what the going rates are but I just bought a ton of stuff at the Gap 25% off sale. I got a bunch of the nicer onsies for about $2.50....shirts for between $3-5 etc. If you are a bargain shopper you can find new, name brand stuff for cheap. I would price it right if you are just looking to get rid of it.....
