Cloth training pants? Help!

I'm potty training DD. She's been doing really well, she hasn't had a BM in a diaper/PullUp in months. She's been great on the potty for pee, but then the last few days, she's either had accidents in big girl undies, or she's just peed in the PullUp. SO, I'm thinking she needs something that feels wet, but absorbs the mess without making a mess on my carpet.

I want to find a cloth training panty for her that fits like big girl undies, not big and bulky or fluffy. I'm not so worried about thickness, but it looks like they're inflatable or something, like the nasty Gerber training pants (why do they have to be so BIG?!!) Is there such a thing? Should I just buy a cloth diaper or three?

I looked on etsy, one thing looked promising, but I figured all of you CD'ing mamas would know best.

Happy Heinys has a great trainer, in my opinion. Sometimes you can even get snaps added to the sides. Pretty trim, and won't let anything get out.
Bummis can sometimes be a little bulkier, but nowhere near Gerber plastic pants size or anything! They're actually pretty good! About as trim as some of the thick underwear made for that age group, but waterproof on the outside.
Blueberry has some that are the most like "real" underwear to me, but that also means that they're only partially-waterproof. They might feel damp to the touch and aren't for overnight, naps, long car trips, etc. without an additional cover.

I don't know what cloth gerber diapers you are talking about that are "huge" but the ones we have for DD 2 ~ they are just like regular undies with a thicker area for absorbing the mess.

I agree that the Gerber ones are awful.

Happy Heinys makes a great trainer but I think it is best for overnights and children who are still having fairly significant accidents.

For a child who is pretty well potty trained but still need a little help, try the Imse Vimse trainer. They are extremely well made and great for the advanced training child. http://www.cottontailbaby.com/item_40/Imse-Vimse-Training-Pants.htm

Happy shopping!

I used these for my son and loved them! They gave me peace of mind.

The Imse Vimse trainers are really great. They are a step up from the regular trainers with extra fabric in the middle, but a step down from poofy thick big trainers. My daughter loved them. They are just like underwear, fitted and you can't tell they are wearing them.

Description
ImseVimse Training Pants are functional and stylish and are made with organic cotton. Kids love the trim and comfortable fit. Organic cotton knit outside with two layers of absorbent organic cotton terry on the inside, and one inner layer of PUL. ImseVimse training pants protect clothes from getting wet when small accidents happen.

What is she in most of the time now???

Honestly I would just have plenty of the "pretty girl" regular underwear and leave her in that. No pull-ups or diapers unless you use them for bedtime. Switching around can be confussing. Many kids regress slightly at times and work though it in a day or two. If she is having a lot of accidents and you need to be out and about, try putting a pull up over her regular underwear while you are gone.

We used Potty Scotty pants for DS when he was that age. They were WAAAAY better than the gerber ones. They make potty patty ones for girls here: http://www.pottypatty.com/CTGY/Potty-Training-Pants.html
Apparently they have a whole "training program" - I don't know anything about that but the pants are GREAT! Used the non-PUL ones for around the house and a PUL one for times when we'd be out of the house for an extended amount of time (although those ones are bulky).
HTH!

I would caution away from anything that isn't breathable. The plastic exteriors ~ while they may keep your carpet 100% dry also is more likely to cause rash. Even if she doesn't have an accident they can cause moisture and then rash/yeast.

JMHO! I also agree with not switching back and forth. That can seriously slow down potty training!

WHat bothered my son the most was the sensaton of it running down his leg. That helped move along the training alot. I think if we kept him in "training" pants, he would still be in them.

This is what we used on our DS as well and LOVED it. If he had an accident, he'd feel it, and my furniture was spared ... or no puddles to clean up!

Plus, it gave him a "big boy" feel, which helped him through the transitioning and the regressions. As with other posters, we agree that consistency (in undies) may help, but you know your little one best! Best of luck to you and your little one!

:thumbsup2I think I'm going to try the Imse Vimse and the kind on etsy.

It's funny, most of the time in the house, I have her in a dress and nekkie butt. When we got out, though, it's PullUp time. I really like the idea of putting on the big girl panties on top of the PullUps though. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow and see how that goes.

I wish the Gerber ones worked as well for us. I think we have about 6 pair lying around, but there's still a puddle after she wets them. :headache: It's not a big puddle, but a puddle nonetheless. I wish we had hardwood floors sometimes.

I wish she cared about it running down her leg. She does get upset when she has an accident though, because she knows she's supposed to go on the potty. I wonder why it's been different the last few days. She was SO good about just coming to get me or just going on her own, but the last 2 days... nada. I don't get it. At least the poopies are consistent, they're *always* on the toilet.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to give some a try and see what happens!! :cool2:

We have the gerber trainers....I just need to get my DS to wear them!!! He knows when he has to go, he tells me, and he can stay dry a good amount of time, but he is being very difficult. My DD was so easy to potty train :confused3 I just need to take the diapers away and be done!

Lookin' at your signature, I say I can come up with ONE idea....

Everyone had way better suggestions than I had in my head (b/c I didn't care about bulkiness in CDs or training pants, LOL) so I'll leave it at "new baby brother coming along soon causing regression". :)

If you are switching between the two (undies and pullup) that can be very confusing for a little one.

Once we went to panties we never went back. Not even at night.

I believe that it gives them mixed messages to tell them it is okay to pee in pants sometimes but not others. We took a week with each of our girls and just stayed around the house and worked on it.

A big part of the accidents that we occasionally have with DD2 (never had even ONE accident with older DD ~ and we had a newborn while training her) is when she gets to involved in something.

Try getting her a potty watch ~ it goes off every 30 minutes to remind her (and sometimes me!) that it is time to try. I do things like pause a favorite show for a potty break ~ so she can see she isn't missing anything. Stop a game, put a book down, etc ~ that way they aren't trying to hold it to not miss anything and ending up going in her pants.

I say ~ pick something and stick with it until she has mastered that ~ then move on to the next "step".
