The Best Western in downtown disney allows 5 in a standard hotel room they all have balconies. You can walk to downtown disney (it is a few blocks away from the marketplace) and they have free shuttles to the parks.
Not a resort, but the Buena Vista Suites was right outside the gates and had a full breakfast. 2 Queens in bedroom plus a separate living room with a sofa bed.
Vacation Villas at Parkway is as close as a lot of onsite places in terms of driving time; the condos there get good reviews and are usually less than Wyndham Bonnet Creek units. Bonnet Creek is the closest offsite you can get, aside from the Swan and Dolphin.
Be aware that it's not just simple distance from the parks; lights and traffic have an influence. At least according to the times given in The Unofficial Guide, places just as close as Vacation Villas that come in on World Center Drive have longer drive times, likely because there's so much more traffic coming off of I-4 at that exit. But it's definitely possible to get offsite places just as close as many onsite.
We stayed at Vacation Village last month and it took about 10 min to get to the parks. It's more a hotel than a resort but it was nice and spacious. Oh and they now have a free, but infrequent, shuttle.
I've stayed at both, Sheraton was quite a few years ago; so, I don't remember much about it.
However, Silver Lake is very close, near Animal Kingdom area if I recall correctly. Kind of a back way into the park. We seemed to miss a lot of traffic getting in/out/around.
