I'm going to Disneyland on July 17 and was able to convince my friend who lives in Sherman Oaks, CA to let us stay overnight in a motel and have July 18 at Disneyland as well. Originally I was only going to have 1 day at the park.

I would like to avoid driving from the motel. What is the closest motel to Disneyland if you are walking to the main gate. We don't care about quality of hotel, we are two college-age guys and it's only one night.

Thanks

Here's an interesting question....

We're probably going to be driving down from Sherman Oaks early in the morning on the 17th. I think it will be about a two hour drive with traffic. Would we be able to check in at the motel in the morning and leave the car there?,

or

Do we need to pay for parking at Disneyland, leave the park in the middle of the day, check in, and then we would be able to stay at the park until midnight.

We've always been able to park at our hotel (various) on Harbor and leave our car there until official check-in time later in the day. Whichever hotel you choose, call to confirm that they still do this.

The Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI) and the Park Vue are right next to the crosswalk on South Harbor Blvd.

Ayep!

We are staying at the Ramada Inn Maingate- it is supposed to be right across the street from the main gates of disneyland...

Look at the maps...their idea of being right across the street isn't hooked up with reality. :( Still not very far away at all, but not immediately across from the gates where people can get in.

I've been staying at the Park Vue Inn for the last 9 years. It IS right across the street from the entrance. That's the main reason I stay there. It's a good deal for the money too.

Desert Inn and Suites - it's right at the light, next to Denny's. Just across the street from the main gate.

We like the Tropicana Inn and Suites. It's right next to the Best Western, all right at that cross walk. Only a couple minutes to the gates.

Some SAY they are right there, but as others have said, are WAY off!

As wdwrich suggested, you should definitely call the motel and check on their policy.

I have done the early arrival thing at both the BWPPI and the Park Vue -- and, honestly, the parking situation was much better at the Park Vue. They seem to have more available space than the Best Western. At the BWPPI, although they allowed me to park early, I had to wait for other guests to leave to free up space. Although that only amounted to a 15-20 minute wait, I suppose it could have been worse.

Also, since you plan on going to the Park the following day, you should check on the motel's "post-checkout" parking policy. BWPPI required me to leave the lot by 3:00PM on my checkout day. The Park Vue, however, has always allowed me to remain for the full day. Because of their generous parking policy, I always try to stay at the Park Vue whenever I do an over-nighter.

(NOTE: I have not done this in the middle of summer, so it is possible that the Park Vue has more parking restrictions in place during peak season. Once again, you should call and check.)

The Alpine Inn is next to the Disneyland property, their gate divides the motel from the Timon parking lot. It's within walking distance from the Convention Center Disneyland entrance on Katella (Harbor + Katella), if you're not familiar with the area it's the closet Park parking lot - closer than Downtown Disney & the Mickey Friends structure. A tram will pick you up and take you to the main entrance, but also a medium walk away.

Just be aware that there will be no tram if they do not open the Timon Lot, it's more an overflow lot and is not open every day. AND this is where they will be constructing the new CarsLand area so soon the Timon Lot will be no more.

We've always been able to leave our car in parking lots well after checkout. We usually leave for home around 1-4 in the afternoon depending on what the day is like and how exhausted we are feeling, before having parking on our APs we would leave our car in the hotel lot. We have done this at the Trop, CCI, BWPPI & HoJo with no problem. The only time we've been told it might be a problem was at BWPPI because they weren't sure there would be room but the next morning when we asked upon check out we were told it wouldn't be a problem at all. Most of the Harbor hotels are happy to let you stay there as long as they the room.
