My family is currently booked in two rooms at POR for November 2014- but I am now considering staying offsite. There will be 4 adults and two kids- ages 5 and 2 at the time of travel. I am only interested in places that are very close to Disney- and places that are nice. :) I've checked out WBC and it is definitely an option, but I love the idea of a house with a private pool Where do you recommend? We will have two cars available to us. I've checked VRBO for Windsor Hills and Formosa Gardens, but I am not sure if I am missing out on other potential places.

Reunion Resort or Champions Gate are nice. Champions Gate has many brand new rental homes all with pools. Reunion has many homes with pools, and a water park. Both are about 10 minutes to Disney, Just up one exit from Disney on I-4 westbound.

Windsor Hills is a beautiful resort, stayed there in January with my family. Has everything ranging from 2-bedroom condos to 6-bedroom houses. Beautiful property, well-maintained, and cheap! My family of four only paid $750/week for a 3-bed condo. Close to Disney. Definitely check it out!!!:cool1:

I can't post a link because I don't have enough total posts but I used homeaway.com search engine, as far as I can tell they have the largest and most inclusive selection of rental homes around Disneyworld. Just go to homeaway.com and enter disneyworld in the search bar, it will take you to the list of homes and they will organize them by putting who pays them the most on the top. BUT you can then use their filter to select just houses with pools (this will still give you condos and other places like that with public pools but I get around those with a little elbow grease later), then when you are back at the main list you can select "map view" in the upper right corner and zoom in right next to Disney down in the four corners area. I get close and I set the map to satellite view and I literally just start combing through the streets looking for actual houses with the little blue dots that mean they are for rent. You can tell exactly how far they are from Disney and you can tell if they have neighbors right there or if they have trees behind them. They are all right on top of each other but some are a little better, you can even see if the pools have fences or something blocking the rest of the neighborhood from the pool. It can take a while but I made a list of the best candidates in our price range, I was shooting for $200 a night total like a low moderate at Disney, and I still found 20 or 30 candidates that had good ratings and looked like they were owned by good owners that actually use the house and not just trashing it for a quick profit.

In the end you can get a decent and clean 4-5 bedroom with a private pool for as low as $1000 a week and you can get the same thing VERY close to Disney for $1500. SOOO much better than two beds in a room together for a week, I love hotels at first, then I hate them after 3 or 4 days....7 is right out! Good Luck.

Thank you all so much- you have given me a lot of places and ideas to research! I admit, I have anxiety about being outside of the "Disney Bubble" as that was what I was planning all along, but we have always loved renting vacation homes in the Outer Banks, and I think this would be a great fit for the 6 of us. Not to mention a lot more inexpensive, and since we are going the week before Thanksgiving- supposed to not be crazy busy- I don't think sacrificing the space and money to be onsite is worth it. Thank you again! :thumbsup2

We are Renton a house in July that's in indian ridge, 3 bdrm/2bath gorgeous pool and spa, completely fenced in yard, game room, quiet area, amazing rates and only 3 miles from Disney. Message me if interested in the link to the house. I was so excited to find it after searching for weeks. Good luck house hunting

We also rent homes on OBX and other beaches, so we moved from staying onsite to offsite 2 years ago. Our first experience I "thought" I wouldn't do it again, that I missed the hustle and bustle of full immersion into Disney. However, in hindsight I realized it was a great experience and that we saved money by staying offsite. We're staying in Windsor Hills for the second time next month in a 3 bedroom 4 bath house, private heated pool and spa, outdoor TV, gameroom, theater room, etc. We love WH. We considered Reunion this trip, but I kept reading they were having financial problems and it was not as well kept as it should be (admittedly, I don't know this first hand so take it for what its worth).

Whatever you decide, you will have a great time! Good luck!
