closest hotels to universal

Since the Universal Resorts are so expensive, I am looking for the closest hotels to Universal, preferably within walking distance.

The Holiday Inn (Universal) and DoubleTree Hotel are just across the street from the Portofino Bay Hotel. I would say from either hotel to the parks is maybe a 15 minute walk max. We stay onsite and use the Budget rental car place inside the Holiday Inn. I'd say those are your best bet to be as close to onsite as possible (and, within walking distance).

The Doubletree across the street from Universal is awesome. I stayed there this past September. It had great views, and the walk was not bad at all!! Me and my friend walked there every day to and from the park. They also have a pretty nice food court. The food is pretty good, nd not horribly priced. They even had weekly specials, like $5 for a large meatball sub was the special when I was there. Plus you get the best cookie when you check in. Soooo good!

We just got back from the Doubletree and I agree - it was an easy walk and a nice hotel. It was too chilly to try the pool when we were there, but it looked pretty nice as well.

There was also a Friday's, Cracker Barrel, and a Japanese Steak House within walking distance from the Doubletree and the Holiday Inn as well.

Some of the hotels around Universal have a resort shuttle that goes to Sea World. I think the Orlando bus system goes there too, or the I-Drive bus. Anyone know for sure?
