What is the closest beach to GC and it is a good beach or can you suggest another one that maybe not be as close but within resonable driving distance?:)

Google up Huntington Beach. Fairly easy to get to and many things to do.

Someone needs to sticky this topic or something. It seems to come up at least once a week.

Huntington & Newport are the closest. I've never been to Newport. Huntington is nice and has rental shacks where you can rent umbrellas, beach chairs, surf boards, etc. It also has Rubies Diner on the pier which is a cool little 50's restaurant.

By no means is it the closest beach but, on our last trip we visited Santa Monica because it is one of those SC landmarks and had a good time. There is a lot of food options on the pier and of course the carnival operation. The beach is also really nice with a lot of room and good midsize waves/current. There is also a mall about a block from the pier that has a food court for lesser fare food options or shopping.

There is a lot of questions that come up... rather than sticky, there should be an FAQ section with all the common questions...

I went to all of those beaches throughout my last trip. There was never any traffic and it was like 15-20 min away, sweet. I had never thought of Disneyland as coastal before. I also liked that the beaches had few people unlike Santa Cruz OMG! Don't ever try to do Santa Cruz any time but in the off season.:tiptoe:

I remember that someone mentioned there was a beach resort not too far away that was a great place to visit. Does anyone remember where it was or the name of it?

My niece has a vacation home in Huntington Beach ("Surf City" from the Jan and Dean song) and I stay there for at least part of the time during my southern California trips. During peak times it takes longer, but usually it is about a 30-minute drive (much of it is on surface streets with lights, etc.). I also enjoy Laguna Beach with its beach and cliffs.
