Which resort is more smoker friendly... Port Orleans Riverside or Wilderness Lodge?

While I have not been to either I would suspect that the Moderate would have easier acces to the DSA's.
Simply because at a Deluxe you would have to go down the hall and then outside. The Moderates do not have indoor hallways so once you open the door to your room you are outside. I am not sure how many floors POR has, but my experience with CBR being only two floors was great, even on the second floor it was no biggie to go downstairs.

:rotfl: hey! krissy, katie, and my old pal chellie!
definitely port orleans. as pinted out, the deluxe resorts are not smoker friendly only beacuse you have to walk down the hallway to the elevaator, then out to get to a dsa. at boardwalk, depending where you are (if you're only one flight up, not too bad.
we stayed at riverside. there was a 2 person bench at the quiet pool right by our bldg.. dsa. however, there were 2 tables at one end of the pool, away from most of the other seating and tables, that almost everyone used as a dsa. there was no problem. we all just kind of "collected" there and made new friends! there are also many along the main walkway, one outside the food court, there were a couple tables up by the muddy rivers bar, and some tables near the pool, closest to the bar, that smokers "congregated".
there was still one by Norway?:scared1: how could we have missed that?

I warned Nebo, since we have to smoke in our bedroom when our grandson comes over, there's no way, when we get to bring him down, that our son will want us dragging him from DSA to DSA!:rotfl:
nebo:"i know, I know!"
(the grandson, not the son,; I hate it when I dangle my participles!!!)

Non smoker here. Who was the bright light that put the DSA's at the bottom of every handicap ramp? That is prime location for those of us pushing little ones in strollers. Place most likely to find kids and DSA should not be the same! Just in case any one in charge is reading here.

I think they need to make sure there are adequated DSA's around. My DH is an on again off again smoker. He like most smokers follows the rules about DSA's, but if they keep making less of the them and harder to find what choice with those have that need a smoke badly. They can either become more stressed trying the find the DSA's or lite up and wait for a CM to direct them to the nearest DSA.

hmm, I just went through almost all the DSAs in all 4 parks in my mind, and can't think of even one at the bottom of a handicapped ramp. (and believe me, I know where the DSAs are. ) also thinking of the resorts I've stayed at.
If there is a DSA at the bottom of every handicap ramp, you'd think I'd be able to think of a couple. (or even 1).:confused3

I agree this is a bad spot, since many people using wheelchairs do so because of respiratory issues. I just don't think this is the case.
what locations are you speaking of?

I was thinking the same thing I didn't see one at a handicapped ramp most of them at the parks are tucked away !! I definately agree they shouldn't be there but I must have missed those ones !!

Gotta agree with smidgy. As a smoker who uses an ECV at Disney AND smokes only in designated smoking areas, I, too, would have noticed if all/many/some DSAs were adjacent to wheelchair ramps. TRUST me!

Anyone know how the dsa are CSR?

coronado is smoker friendly. we stayed there in 08 and there were many ashtrays. (maybe because it is an convention resort? we were on the 3rd floor.when you left our room, you walked a few feet and the walkway turned a corner. there was a little "outjutting" of the walkway at the corner that led to nowhere. there was an ashtray there! nebo was happy:dance3:.

kaytie, I think maybe this was a "troll".? posting this. we smokers would have noticed this. by the way, if the numerous people with strollers used the handicapped ramps, I think there wouldn't be much room for the handicapped. the ramps should not be a place likely to have kids. wouldn't it be difficult for the ECV users to avoid hitting them? ( just askin', I use neither.)

Well, smidgy - begging the indulgence of our wonderful and patient Moderators for a moment :) - the only absolutely, 100% defined wheelchair ramp is outside The Land - and despite both standing signage and emblems imbedded into the walkway... it's difficult enough to avoid hitting the adults on foot who choose to amble up or down this narrow path instead of using the much wider pedestrian walkways... yeah, we would most assuredly notice any abundant usage by strollers :teeth: but it's just not there.

The remaining 'handicap ramps', from what my memory is pulling up, are actual attraction entrance/exits - and no, there are no DSAs adjacent to attraction entrances or exits.

kaytie, I know the ramp you are talking about. I found myself walking in it once (oops) and by the time I noticed I was halfway through. now I make sure not to enter it. sorry!
but again, no DSA there. funny how those posting about a DSA being in a bad spot never seem to check back in. when I told hubby Nebo about that post, he pointed out that there used to be a DSA in canada near a sction that gets roped off for handicapped at Illuminations time, but that DSA has gone away, too.
If MonkeyQ doesn't come back to specify, this seems to be a moot issue.

Has anyone been to Beach Club lately? I put a request on for a first floor room figuring easier access to a DSA. Does anyone have a tip for a particular building or rooms here that would be closest to a DSA? This will be my first time here and looking at the map, it does not look very smoker friendly. Thanks

Looking at this map: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/yachbeachmap.htm. We were in Room 1516 (1st floor), which is in the wing furthest to the right on the map and closest to Epcot. There's a door to the beach pool at the inner corner where the DSA is shown. I think it was maybe 4-5 rooms from our door. It had at least one bench, maybe two. The room location was awesome since we were so close to the Epcot walkway.

Thanks for the info Jam! I can go for long periods of time without lighting up, but Dh is another story and I know it was like a trek when we stayed at CR to the DSA. I didn't even think to ask when we were checking in but I most certainly will this time! :)

Do you recall if you had a waterview room booked? We are booked in standard view and I wonder if that would be considered as part of a standard view room since it faces the pool.

I was traveling with a friend (fellow DISer redbudlover), and it was her reservation so I don't know what she requested, if anything. They had us in a king when we checked in, so we got moved. Our room didn't face the pool--it was on the opposite side of the hall and faced Epcot, which we only figured out when we were coming in one night and could see IllumiNations through the trees from our patio :cool1:

I also like the DSA between the villas and the hotel. It's in a covered area with two benches. Unfortunately, I don't know the room numbers at that end of the building, but someone else here might.

Do not know if this is the proper place to ask, but we are booked at the CBR in October, is there a smoking area around the Pirate themed pool?

We usually stay at the Wilderness lodge where I can smoke my cigars by the Pool bar.

Is there also a smoking area by the smaller pools?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

There's one just outside the door to the Villas going out to the quiet pool (don't know the name). I'm a smoker, and I think it's a terrible place for a DSA, but it's there.

Oops -- wrong resort. I think you were asking about CBR not WL...
