Thanks for all the great info kook. I'm ok with the pool but hadn't considered the noise (and I have a napper). Requesting inner courtyard view and 6th floor so hopefully we will be ok. If not sounds like the managers will be expecting me and the hoards of others...

~Randy, the wonderful CL Manager, just left the Lodge for a Temporary Assignment in Recreation at POR/POFQ. He may return in 3-4 months, but the Rec. TA was one he requested so unfortunately for us, he may not be returning to WL:sad1:. But, he gets to wear sneakers and swim trunks now:beach:

:sad::sad::sad:

Thanks for the update Kook! Glad you were able to take some time from your vacation to let us know what the deal is.
I know we will be there when the pool construction is going on, but we are doing so much that it shouldn't have an affect on us. And if we do get a pass to a waterpark maybe we will do that for a change! We have never been as we have never seen the worth of it.

Still looking forward to my time with my DH. We just found out that they asked him to stay until December, but he has put in a request for 2 weeks just for our Disney Vacation because he knows how much is means to me to be with him.
*crossing my fingers* that they approve his request.

Thanks as always for the great info Kook. The photos and information make this thread a valuable resource. Thanks for all you do for it, and we can't wait to hear more about your trip. Maybe we'll see Randy at POR in September...

Just returned from a three night stay at the Lodge at we were upgraded to a Club Level Jr. Suite! I have been staying at WL for 20 years and even am a DVC owner at VWL and have never been upgraded like this. A very nice surprise!!:cool1:

Tonight's cobbler was strawberry peach. Last night was apple and the night before it was blueberry. I noticed that there isn't a lid anymore on the cobbler. I was told that the new chef doesn't want it lidded because it softens the cobbler crust too much:

New to the dessert line-up are lemon bars and caramel and chocolate chips have been added to the brownies. They are extra gooey which means extra yummy. Another wonderful addition is oatmeal is now being served every morning and not just seasonally.

Here is the most recent Artist Point menu for Territory Lounge. This visit we've sampled three dishes so far: The Lo Mein, Korean Pork Loin and Filet Mignon. The filet was wonderful and had a tasty horseradish sauce. The Korean Pork was very odd and not Korean at all. DH liked the pork loin, but the "Bi Bim Bap" part was not even close to BBB and instead of Korean Chili Paste, they used Sriracha which tasted odd on top of the rice. I thought the Thai noodle would be more like a Pad Thai noodle, but it was a very thin vermicelli-type noodle that didn't fit with the dish. The tofu was tasty though. I really think steak and salmon are their best meals and I would highly recommend them either at TL or AP.

Thanks Kook! That doesn't sound good at all :( The rate change does, but I am wary of something that doesn't come ahead of time....really shocked they are suggesting people go elsewhere!
If I understood the explanation correctly, the reason for that is the Lodge can control internal booking issues only after check-in when they "own" the reservation. Prior to check-in, the booking agency, such as the WDTC "owns" the reservation and they are unable to "negotiate" bookings. WL wants to make things right for their guests and they want guests to be happy. They are willing to work with guests to make this happen and they are also pragmatic and understand that if guests, especially new guests, are directly impacted in a negative way by the rehab, they won't be able experience WL at its best. WL wants its guests to leave with a positive experience and they want them to return. Improvements must always be made, but they understand that the process might not make for an optimal experience for guests. The resort is the smallest Deluxe so they can't just take all the CY rooms out of inventory for 2 months.

Thank you so much Ms. Kook!! That explanation for the timing of the refurb makes me feel a lot better. That makes sense why they have to stagger it. Now I get to start thinking about Blizzard Beach!
:beach:

Thanks Kook for the updates. Sounds like you are having a great trip. Can't wait to hear more. For the first time in 4 years, we won't be taking our DD's to the lodge for Halloween. We are doing an adult only trip for four nights before our cruise in Oct. Because of the pool ( we love our pool time) we are staying at the Contemporary. We look forward to returning to the Lodge next year with our girls. I'm sure we will be taking the boat over for a peek. Happy Planning to all.
I understand and CR will be wonderful for an adult's-only trip. We ate at The Wave for breakfast today and we always love their buffet. The Tillamook cheese and bacon grits were new to the buffet and really delicious.

Thank you Kook for the info. It really helps. I know you are on vaca, and I really do appreciate the info. Do you know how this will effect the Villas? Will there be sound issues there as well? Should those staying in the Villas also inquire about rate changes, passes, etc? If you don't have the answer, please don't go out of your way to seek it. I will be more than happy to phone and get the answers. I was just wondering if you happened to know off hand?

You are a star and have been my guiding light to our first deluxe stay surprise 5th birthday adventure. Thank you again and look forward to the pictures.
You are very kind. The only impact on VWL guests would be the increase in WL swimmers in the VWL pool. The WL pool and VWL are separated by the South Wing of WL which contains over 300 rooms. I suppose that during the few days of jack hammering during the day, those outside the villas could hear it. I don't think there will be any impact to VWL guests in their villas or lobby area other than the increased number of guests in the pool.

WDW KOOK, Thanks so much for the update. My DDs and I will be arriving at the WL for 10 nights starting July 2. The pictures are beautiful! I can hardly wait until we arrive to celebrate the adoption anniversaries of my two daughters--20 years for my oldest DD on July 4th and 15 years for youngest DD on July 7th.
What wonderful celebrations! I will try to leave the Lodge in good shape for you;)

Thank you for the info and photos Kook! That confirms what I was told last week when we booked our CL stay for the 23 - 27 of July of no construction during our stay.

DH just interrupted my reading to tell me 3 weeks from today we would be on our way home from WL. I reminded him unless he wanted to change dates AGAIN for this trip, 3 weeks from today we wouldn't have left! I think someone is craving Disney Magic.

Sunset looks wonderful from the lounge. I almost wish he was right and not a week off!

Liz
That's cute and you can tell him that you'd be happy to stay an extra week:thumbsup2

Well, an inner or WL CYV will overlook the rehab area and be closest to the noise. STD and Woods Views would not overlook the pool area at all and would be most quiet, especially STD. But, maybe the absence of the afternoon pool party PA system and music will make for a better nap environment even with the pool work:confused3

So should woods view rooms be spared from the pool noise you think?
They are on the opposite side of the wing from the CY and pool so they would be further from any noise and the STD View rooms would be furthest.

Yes, very sad it just won't be the same without his smiles and hugs. Luckily, all the great CMs are staying and I've heard very positive remarks about Jackson who will be replacing Randy, at least for the next 2-4 months.

All of my appendages are crossed for DH's leave approval:)

Awww, thank you, Paul. I could not do this without your detailed and timely help with answering questions. I thought of you today when I timed the boat ride from WL to FW and from FW to CR - just about 6 1/2 minutes each leg - but, I bet you knew that;).

That would be great if you could find Randy at POR. He'll be the new recreation manager and you can talk about WL.

That is superterrificlygreat! Looks like we were both upgraded to the Deluxe Room:thumbsup2. WL is very generous with upgrades and which Deluxe room were you in?

'Bout time that figured that out!!!! :rotfl:

So nice to hear for you KOOK! I think the worst part of all your news is Randy's (hopefully short) departure. He truly is a gem!! There is something to be said about not having to wear a suit n tie every day! :beach:

The fence will be fine once it's up. I've looked at pics at the AK pool fence and it is beautifully done. Guests will forget what the courtyard looked like without one. ;). But until then...:crazy2:

How is being in the deluxe but NOT on CL floor? pixiedust:

:wave2::flower3:

We were in 3166. The room was not ready when we first checked in and as I got the text letting me know the room number I thought they had changed their minds and were giving us a non-Club level room (thought all club level rooms were on the 7th floor!)...little did I know!!:rotfl:

Well, it took a few days, but I am finally caught up! ( I last posted on p. 145 of the closed thread) I spent a lot of time reading about FP+ and stressing about that a bit, but now I figure we can always change them once we are there and it is not worth stressing about. I am also leaning towards not getting Memory Maker, ( thanks to all who answered my question). We are not doing any character meals, plus I will not be riding the rides that have pictures, so even with MM I wouldn't be in the pictures! :)
It was strange reading through all the pool drama, knowing how it was going to play out. It was like watching Game of Thrones, knowing who is going to die at the end of an episode. I feel bad for anyone who has had to deal with that stress. I tend to panic and want reassurance whenever I hear the words refurb or construction. There is so much beauty at the WL, that I think it is possible to overlook construction in one area and enjoy the rest. Personally, our family has avoided the main pools at all the resorts we have stayed at- even the Poly! We prefer quiet pools and since they started those noisy pool parties, it is even more of an incentive! (we do love our afternoon swim and nap) I think my main concern would be the jack hammering. I would ask to be as far away from the pool site as possible! I hope everyone who has concerns finds a happy resolution that fits their family's needs and preferences!
Thank you to annaaidan99 for posting the CL food offerings throughout the pool discussions. It really helped to balance things out. :)
And finally, thanks to our wonderful Kook for being a voice of reason every time a new rumor floated by. Your dedication to this site and the respect (and patience!) you demonstrate towards every participant, fosters an atmosphere that is quite rare in a public forum. Thank you for all you do and I hope you are enjoying a well-deserved WL respite from the real world. I thought this school year would never end, and I am so happy to be able to be back hanging out here!! Looking forward to reading everyone's reports and enjoying all the photos.

Couldn't have said it better myself!! Thank you for all you do! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Thanks so much, KOOK, for all your updates and info! So glad you are enjoying your vacation. I am ecstatic that it sounds like our trip 7/18-7/28 will be construction free! Yay!
All the cobbler pictures make me think next trip must be Club Level! :)

Couldn't have said it better. Kook is wonderful and patient. Thanks for your dedication. :lovestruc

And to everyone - I always want to say thanks for all your input and information! Even though I go often, I still get so much info from this thread. You are all very valuable parts of my WL life. :worship:

I may have missed it or perhaps it's an unknown but do we know the dates the heavier work/jack hammering will take place or should we expect it during the entire pool closure period? Just checking as we arrive Oct 28. Thanks guys! :)

Kook was told that the jack hammering would last for several days. We will be there the week before you arrive and we're hoping that the jack hammering will be finished by then. I would guess that it would be near the beginning of the project.

Woods view and standard view rooms probably won't be bothered by any of the construction noise. And I would think that all the work would be wrapped up by late afternoon.

Jack hammering sounds awfully loud! Our trip will be a short one by our standards, just 6 days at WL after a room only at POR. We have talked about switching resorts, but we just can't come up with anyplace we'd rather stay this time. Trying to keep costs down, but still stay Deluxe so it's WL or AKL and we've done AKL for two years in a row.

We are happy to hear that the WL folks want to make everyone's stay the best it can be!! Thank you Kook for your reports!!

Also, I really don't like the noise from the pool parties!!
