CLOSE hotels.. i mean motels...

I’m a little late on response... I’ve been to Desert Inn and Suites back in October 2016 and we had a very unpleasant experience there. Will never go back. Saying that, I’ve seen many love it there.

I’m going to advocate for Candy Cane Inn as well. The shuttle alone is perfect for your husband and his knees. The breakfast is great with lots of offerings (nothing hot other than toasted stuff though), parking is free, the grounds are beautiful, they have very reasonable rates, the desk staff and shuttle drivers are very friendly, and the rooms are quiet and comfortable. It’s my all time favorite good neighbor hotel.

Shuttle runs on time, rooms are comfy, beds and bedding are fantastic. Also the shuttle runs on the hour and half to the park and on the 15 and 45 back to the hotel. I love that it is ON TIME, so you know at 1:32 you have missed it or at 1:43 it will be there in a minute.

I arrived and told them I had a new card and the one I booked with had been cancelled and paid for the entire stay in full. No biggie. Except 3 hours later when I’m at Medieval Times, I notice I have 6(!!!) missed calls from DI&S within the 40 mins since I last looked at my phone. So I call then back and they say “So we tried to charge your card for the stay and it declined. We need to see you right now with payment”. I tell them no and that I paid already and my bank shows the charge and that they will need to wait until Infinish my evening at MT before I see them. When we return, I show them and remind them I paid in full, showed my receipt and bank statement... told them they were charging the wrong card. After sitting there for 25 mins while they were speaking with the manager, they said okay it’s all fixed blah blah blah.

Fast forward to the following afternoon and I get ANOTHER call saying the same thing. I tell them again it’s an error on their end and I paid in full. They tell me they need to see proof as it doesn’t show in their system except declined. I’m in the parks and basically tell them they have to wait. Finally I get back and while I’m annoyed, Im not rude until THEY tell me I should have just used my original card as “this wouldn’t be an issue then”. Excuse me?! Then they ask to see the card I used... I then get an alert that evening that they charged the room AGAIN! Bottom line is they couldn’t fix their error, were rude and didn’t apologize once, accused me for this being my issue. Poor customer service.

Didn’t help matters when the room we were in was extremely loud and the beds weren’t very comfortable.

Interesting, knowing that I reserved with a CC that is expiring one month before my trip. I'll make sure I save all the paperwork and emails just in case something goes awry.
 
We have had good luck with the Tropicana and the Del Sol (though the water pressure was a bit low when we were there last week). The Del Sol is clean and close (next to DIS) and usually have great rates.

As far as an ECV we used one for my wife in the fall and then may son used one last week (broken leg) and they made both trips so much more enjoyable

Definitely keep every scrap of paper and note about any payments made... Including all their numbers, too. We had similar issues with our card expiring right before a trip. Had reserved a room at like $70/night, but they didn't want to honor that since it wasn't made on the card I was using to actually pay for the room. ... We cancelled future trips with them, but they seemed to have forgotten to actually cancel the stays, and we had to fight them over reversing the charges!
 
Another option is to stay wherever you want and take Lyft. It’s super easy... costs about 6 bucks to most nearby hotels, they arrive quickly, and they drop you off in the drop off loop right past the bus loop. There are also a bunch of taxis sitting there at the end of the day. We took one instead of lyft once and it cost about the same or maybe a dollar more.
 
We just stayed at the Alpine Inn. The rooms are clean and quiet. It’s close enough to walk but we used Uber. It was $5.00 a trip and we only had to wait a couple of minutes for our ride to appear.
 
We have reservations in May at the Grand Legacy as the price was ideal. So many of the reviews I have read have said that the new main building with the rooftop bar is quite loud if you stay on one of the top floors of the new build, but if you stay in the back in the older motel suites apparently it's much quieter. That is where we booked. We normally stay at the Tropicana but the price was absolutely IDEAL for the Grand Legacy this trip and we wanted to try somewhere new.
