On our day of arrival we will have time to hit up a grocery store to stock the cabin fridge.
I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to where to shop so the cold items wouldn't go too soft on the drive back.

Thank you

If possible I would suggest stopping at the Florida chain Publix Supermarkets on your way in as to go back out can be quite a drive. If necessary stop again if you make any side trips off Disney property. There are many other stores in the local area including Winn Dixie and Goodings (a bit high in prices). The closest Publix I have found is Publix Regency Village Shopping Center.

Driving Directions:

Exit the Disney complex on Hotel Plaza Blvd (Lake Buena Vista) to 535, turning right on 535.

Drive under I-4, turning left at the first light after you cross under I-4. This should be Vineland Ave.

Continue on Vineland Ave, pass the outlet stores (nice center) and follow the signs to Publix.

This is about 5 minutes further than Goodings, but you save a bunch!

Current Store Hours:

Sun 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Mon 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Tues 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Wed 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Thurs 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Fri 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Sat 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Depends on how you are trtaveling. if you have a rental. you can stop at any of the above named places near the Fort. Also not named is a Super Walmart further down 535 after you cross under I-4 as described going to Publix.

There are two on 535 and the SuperWM is about 2mi from the junction of 535 and I-4 heading towards Kissimmee and a Winn Dixie in the other direction about a mile from the junction. Both of these are about 15min from any site at FW and both have decent Deli sections. Goodings is a last resort since they are pricey.

We always bring a cooler with us, so the ice cream doesn't melt and we can get some cheaper ice that way also.

And, last time we were in there, it was nasty. Very dirty. Also, the shelves didn't have a lot on them. I thought maybe they were closing.

I am a Publix girl myself.

Before they built the first Super WM on 192 past the 535/192 junction we always went to the Publix off 535 just before 192, but in the last 5 or 6 years it has really become a dump. We like the Super WM for non meat type items and the Winn Dixie for meat other than chicken or hamburger.

We stopped at the Winn Dixie: 11957 South Apopka Vineland Road
Orlando, FL 32836-7025. I didn't think the prices were too bad. Then we went a "back" way to FW and avoided a lot of traffic.

I havent been to that Publix in over ten years. It was kind of a dump then! LOL!

My brother lives in Winter Garden, so we hit the brand new Publix up there, just off the turnpike.

I did hit that Wal-Mart on 192 last trip. I avoid WM like the plague, but I wanted to check out the souvenier section. I found some souvies as well as that Daily's Peach margarita frozen drink. I was a happy camper.

Yea, that Publix on 535 might have starting being a dump as long a 10 years ago ... we've been going to FW almost yearly since 1985 so time frames sort of get lost.

I don't think I have been to the WM on 192 for probably since the new one on 535 was built about ... what 6 or so years ago since the new one has a Murphy's and my van is a diesel so that's where I get fuel if needed during our 45 or so day stays there.

I haven't been to the newer Publix near FW since it's longer than just going to the Winn Dixie and for what I need the Winn Dixie is better for us especially the TV Guide and Sunday paper and meats like Chuck Roast, etc.
