Close GCH standard room... What are the chances?

Hi. I am considering staying at GCH for my birthday trip in June but can't afford more than the standard room. I am wondering what the chances of getting a room with a close walk to the parks are? If the chances are slim and I will end up walking just as much as if I stayed at DLH or PPH I am wondering if I should just save my money. Are there other advantages to GCH over the others besides being the closest?

You will always be closer if you stay at GCH. Even at DLH you end up doing a fair qmmont of walking even after you reach the lobby, not to mention waiting for elevators!

We stayed at the GCH last week in a standard room. Our room was on the 6th floor above World of Disney, overlooking the courtyard where the monorail goes through. It was EXTREMELY close to DCA. We just walked to the elevator (which was surprisingly fast), down to the main level, out the door, and it was an extremely short walk to the private entrance. There was NEVER more than 2 people in line to get into the park before us. Even at park opening. Getting into Disneyland wasn't as fast, but it didn't take long either.

Hmmm..I'm glad to hear the standard rooms are close and you had fun! This sounds like a great idea to me as well, since we've been pondering the DLH.

Are the standard rooms comfortably sized and nice looking?

Make sure when you make the reservation that you request a room close to the elevator. I had standard room once that was a long walk down two corridors. It was so far from the elevators that we were joking that we felt like we had walked all the way to San Diego from the GCH elvator to our room. Last year I requested a room by the elevator and had a nice standard room that really close the elevator.

Our experience was very similar. We were on the 3rd floor and almost directly in the middle of the hallway between the 2 elevators. So we had easy access to everything!! The standard rooms are not anything special, but for our family of 4 it was just fine and we spent so much time at the parks and at the pool, we didn't need a fancy room.

If I'm not mistaken, the standard rooms are exactly the same as every other room (except for a suite). You are only paying more for a view. I'm not staying there until June though, so I may be wrong.:confused3

No matter what type of room you stay in, all of the rooms at the GCH are much closer to the parks than the DH or PPH.

As stated just request a room close to the elevators. The earlier you make the reservation the better chance you may have of getting what you. I have a hard time understanding what is comfortably sized? We had one last year with a daybed that was just around the corner from the elevators.

That's correct. I paid extra for park view on my last trip and had a view mostly of the top of trees by the DCA rapid ride. Room was the same. Not worth the extra $ in my opinion

I agree.
