My son's first walk down mainstreet last week and they had this big crane up over the castle, but I solved that in just a few minutes with photoshop.
Now am I rewriting history? Or just enhancing a magical moment? Discuss amongst yourselves...

Great job!

The first time I heard about the cranes, I thought how AWEFUL!!! :sad2: I couldn't believe they weren't doing the work at night. :confused3

So sorry for people who aren't capable of "fixing" their photos to eliminate such an eyesore on such an icon.

Too bad you couldn't get rid on them in real life too. ;) I'm sure some tourists had no idea about the cranes until they saw them for the first time. :guilty:

I keep both...the historical and the rewritten historical. LOL

One is the way it was, and the other is the way it should have been.

On one of our trips, my dad walked into a door frame and had a big cut on his forehead. He had this really ugly bandaid on his head in all of our Breafastsaurus breakfast dinners. It easily became the focal point...not Donald or Goofy. :rotfl2:

For the photos I had printed and framed, I photoshopped the bandaid out. But i didn't delete the original...cause it's still something we talk about and joke about. The next trip to WDW, I pointed at the door frame of the bathroom and told him not to hit it again. LOL

Curious...what was the crane for? Were they removing the big "mirror" from the front?

That's my standard too wrt removing boo boos, food, etc. from the kids faces. If I think it distracts from the photo, I'll clone it out. But I always have the original for purposes of preserving the historical archive. ;) Now wrinkles are a whole 'nother ball game.

They were repainting the castle and removing all last year's gaudiness for the new year of a million dreams opening.

Thanks for this thread :thumbsup2 I've still yet to get into photo editing but on the basis of this realise that I could sharpen up a few snaps that I was unhappy with :)

I like to put my photo editing into three categories. The first is photo "clean up" where you really aren't changing anything substantial in the photo, just making it more pleasing to the eye. Things like cranes, power lines, skin blemishes, etc are all fair game. The next category for me is photo "enhancements" where you have a picture that you alter in a major way to improve it for your personal use. For example, if you take a picture of your cub scout son holding the flag, but there is somebody behind him and you would like the picture of him by himself to send to his grandmother. Like this:

The last category for me is photo "manipulation". This is where you take a picture and instead of making it a better version of what it was, you change the nature of the photo all together. This can be fun, such as when you tell your sister that you were there at her baby shower in Idaho three years ago, when in fact you were back home in Seattle. With Photoshop you can make the facts be whatever you want them to be, like this:

For this picture, I took a picture of myself at home in front of a white wall and pasted myself into a picture of her babyshower. Its not a very good job and would never hold up in court, but for a second she had to think to herself "maybe he was there".

The first one my wife did and was her first try at editing. The second one I did a while ago before I got Photoshop, I just used the software that came with my camera. Anybody can do it, but some pictures and projects are easier than others.

mabas9395, good job on all 3. The second one is a little eerie, poor kid just totally disappears! Is your son wearing 1 black shoelace & 1 white? :rotfl:

Do you have the energy to remove another crane today?

Lucky978, send me a larger copy of the file and I can probably do it this weekend. With that blue sky background, it should be very, very easy.

Yes that would only take minutes in photoshop I just click on the clone stamp tool press alt and click on the blue part then click that pesky crane away!

What is a little more work but even more fun is to take out some of the people in the background. I took out about half of the people in the background in a picture I have of my kids in front of the castle. Really cleaned it up nice.

Now that would be nice. What software are you using? I will send you the pic via email. Can you pm me with your email address? Thank you so much for helping me out with this. I love the picture - just not the crane!
