Clocks or no clocks?

I've always had a clock in our stateroom, so I was a bit surprised when this article mentioned no clocks: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneycruiseline/ten-things-no-one-told-me-before-my-first-disney-cruise/

After doing a search here on these boards, it seems like it's a mixed bag on whether or not the cabins have clocks. It seems odd that they would remove them. Why would they? What's the verdict on clocks now? Are they officially on the way out, temporarily removed?

I think they are replacing the old clocks with the old I phone charger on the top to the ones with the two ports on the front of the clock.
We sailed on the Wonder in February and had this clock.

We just got off the Wonder and had a clock like the one posted above. But our prior cruise last August on the Dream didn't have a clock.

Same clocks on the Fantasy as above. Though Fantasy goes into dry dock in a few weeks, so who knows what will happen on the other side.

We had to ask for a clock on the Fantasy. It was already in our room on the Wonder. I noticed there wasn't a clock in our room at Port Orleans either. What does Disney have against clocks?

whenever i am spending the night in a room with a clock I make sure that ...
1) the time is correct (plus am/pm)
2) the alarm is OFF or set to the time I want
3) it's not a bleeping night light!! Some of these newer ones are so bright - and they usually have a brightness / dimmer setting

As far as clocks on the ship - MOST of the time our stateroom has had a clock.
BUT there are not many clocks in public areas around the ship
The "no clocks" mentality come from ... you're on vacation, no need to watch the clock,
BUT ... if you want to participate in scheduled activities - those are AT A TIME!!! I would rather have public clocks than wear a wrist watch
BUT ... now with the Smart Phone Navigator App - I carry that around with me. Before the App, the Phones were locked in the room safe.

Last year on the wonder there was no clock in our room but our table mates said they had one. We inquired and wee told we could ask for one but didn't. We have our Apple Watch and iPhones

The dream did have a clock

I have been on 6 DCL cruises between the Wonder, Magic, & Fantasy, from an Inside Stateroom to a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah and I have never had an alarm clock. We always bring our own. Closest thing was those propeller clocks on the classic ships years ago, but you couldn't see them in the dark & they had no alarm.

When we were on the dream a few years ago we had to put DHs ball cap over the clock it was so bright and I'm usually not bothered by light while sleeping.

I guess we'll grab a cheap dollar store clock I can't stand not knowing the time while I sleep

We had a clock the clock pictured in this thread on the Fantasy last month. However, we always travel with an inexpensive battery-operated clock with adjustable display brightness. It gets placed on whichever nightstand doesn't hold the clock in the stateroom. That way we can both see a clock more easily without having the clock(s) face toward us at night and disturbing sleep.

Even though there was one in my cabin on the Magic, I honestly never paid attention to it. It was on the opposite side of the bed from mine at home, so looking at it if I woke up wasn't natural - I'd just look at my fitbit or phone if I really felt the need to know what time it was. And to wake up, I used the wake-up call so Mickey did the honors.

A lot of people unplug them to use the plug for charging equipment and many many people simply use their phones for time and alarms. It seems like for some time they took them out of the ships and WDW resorts because most people just weren't using them. We never do (and the old clocks on the Magic a couple of years ago were waaay too bright and I didn't know how to dim them other than putting something over them). There wasn't one on the Fantasy in December so it looks like they've starting putting them back and using ones that allow you to charge your equipment. I'd personally prefer not to have clocks - they take up space I'd rather use on the bedside table.
