Mike,
Anytime you want, my phone has been ringing off the hook!! Its about time the city of Cleveland has a little good luck.

The Cleveland Cavs good.......now that's funny! They might get LeBron James but it will take a lot more than one good player to become a winner in the NBA. He still needs to play and perform, and the Cavs will need to continue to surround him with good players. We here around Philadelphia know it takes more than one good player to win it all in the NBA. The Sixers have yet to surround Allen Iverson with any other quality talent and a 5'11" guard in the NBA will never single-handedly take a team to the title. AI might have his faults but until the Sixers management can get him some help, they'll never achieve the title.

The Cavs will definitely be better but they need to continue to surround LeBron with talent. Last years pick of Dajuan Wagner will help LeBron....I just hope they have enough basketballs in Cleveland for both of them (being they both want/need the ball)!

ncligs - You might be a little confused. Just to clear things up, the NBA did not hold their draft tonight, just the lottery picks. This was just to see what order the teams would draft in. Still, the Cavs are expected to get James with the first pick.

Carmelo Anthony and Darko Milicic (sp?) are supposed to be the next picks.

Gene,

I agree with most of your post, at least this is a start for the Cavs. There next step wil be to hire Van Gundy as there coach. I have seen Lebron play at least 15 times(live) in the last 3-4 years.

He will be a Magic Johnson type of player. He will be a pt guard in the NBA at 6'8". He is the "real deal".

DisneyBen,

I am not confused.............all that counts is the No#1 pick and the Cavs already know they are taking "LeBron James".

Thats all that matters for Cleveland fans.;)

I was only kidding! At least this is a good start for the Cavs and it is huge for Cleveland! :)

I thought for sure the fix was on and they where going to give the local boy to New York

Very interesting--I'm sorry that the Cavs are being blinded into taking the second best player in the draft because of hometown loyalty. Consensus among the experts is that Carmelo Anthony is a much better pick and more likely to pan out. However, I understand the Cavs pick and wish them luck.

I'm not drafting for the Cavs but they had better take a long hard look at Carmelo Anthony. Lebron may be a hometown favorite, but I watched Carmelo play in person several times this year and he's good, real good. Right now ESPN is projecting Lebron w/ the Cavs, Darko Milicic w/ the Pistons, and then Carmelo w/ Denver. It's going to be interesting.

I think it's pretty interesting that the Cavs walk away with the first pick in a lottery that features a local phenom. But hey, it's the NBA and there has NEVER been controversy associated with the lottery before. I guess at least they were tied with Denver for the worst record and with have the same number of chances, so it really doesn't APPEAR too bad.

My prediction ---- Carmelo Anthony is the better pick but they will go with Lebron James and it will come back to hurt them. He doesn't seem to have the maturity of say Kobe Bryant or Tracy McGrady when they came out of high school.

not true Doctor, where C.Anthony might end up the better player, all 13 g/m of the clubs where asked who they would take if they got the no 1 pick, they ALL said James :p

Oh great. Five more years of hearing about the almighty LeBron. Maybe it's time to move to Florida.

My prediction is that LeBron is going to injure himself in the first season and that the Cavs will be stuck paying millions for a useless athlete. Why should he be any different from the rest of his teammates?

Let's not forget that the NBA is all about the money. LeBron James will put people in the seats immediately....that's money in the pockets of the Cavs, the NBA, and other teams (do they have revenue sharing in the NBA?). Carmello Anthony may end up being a better player....time will tell....but he is not the public 'draw' that LeBron is. The Cavs would be crazy not to take LeBron.....just for this reason!

Hey, by taking LeBron, the Cavs will surely get on national TV now too.....when was the last time that happened?!?!? And again, LeBron will get them on national TV, but if they don't win, they won't stay there! I'd actually like to see the Cavs do well.....I always like seeing 'new blood' on TV and doing well. I'm just getting so tired of the same old teams on TV every week....I'd love to see a changing of the guard. Let's see......LA Clippers vs Cleveland for the NBA Championship next year......that's just too funny even thinking about.

The local news showed the folks at the Cavs office going crazy answering phone call after phone call from fair-weather fans who were interested in purchasing season tickets. They were all forking over the required $500 deposit just for the opportunity to select a seat for next season. The manager told the TV reporter that they are planning to stay open all weekend. Gene, you hit the nail on the head. It's all about the money.

Gene, I don't know if there's revenue sharing in the NBA, but I would guess that teams that don't normally sell out games will probably sell out next year when the Cavs and James come in town.

Ok, the words "Cavs" and "sell-out crowds" doesn't look right in the same sentence!! :p :teeth:

Does anyone honestly think LeBron is going to pan out? Dude just signed a $90million contract w/Nike. He already had an H2 - which his mother "bought" him 6 months ago, without having a job. This kid is going to be blindsided by all the money and fame that go along with it. My prediction is that he'll struggle mightily next year (dunking on 5'10" pimply faced kids in HS is one thing, but starring in the NBA is another), he'll start to hear the boo birds in his 2nd season and demand a trade in his 3rd. Playing at home creates too many distractions....ticket requests, family get-togethers, posse parties, etc. He's overhyped. Carmelo, whereas he's not ready for the NBA yet, will be the better player in the long run.

Actually, yes, I think he's the "real deal". Along with the "pimply faced" 5' 10" kids, he also did a lot of dunking on All-American level HS players over the last couple years. VASJ (his HS team) didn't play a traditional HS league schedule the last couple years -- they mostly travelled around the country playing nationally ranked opponents.

That, and he's played for the past couple summers with and against pro level competition -- and everyone's said that he's more than held his own already.

The main concern is definitely keeping his head screwed on straight -- which will be a major challenge for everyone involved. But skill-wise, I don't think he's over-hyped that much.
