Day 5
This morning was a special one. I'd finally gone to the resort store and purchased a bottle of conditioner for my hair. How did I forget to pack that? Conditioner is more important than toothpaste even, when you're blonde, in Florida, and swimming a lot. I had hay up there by the third day.
With the warm shower gently easing me into the day, I shampooed and then took a handful of rich, creamy conditioner. It's minty smell reached my nose before I'd even raised my hand away from the bottle and as it neared my face the intensity of it assaulted my sinuses to the point of pain. Good heavens! I jerked my head back, pulling a neck muscle in the process, my sinuses clearing in a violent and unfriendly way.
But I was desperate for conditioning so I applied it quickly, rubbing it's minty essence over my scalp with one hand, holding my pained neck with the other. It only took moments before I began to feel a tingle. The tingle turned into a chilling flood of minty ice and I could hear the blood rushing in my ears. It felt like I was skiing with no hair! Horrified, in pain, but desperate, I left it on until my tolerance ran out and I had to rinse. But the warm water only served to intensify the feeling. With my screams wafting out the door I swore Mickey was going to hear about it and hopefully he'd choose another brand so that others would not have to endure what I'd endured.
Today was a Magic Kingdom day, and who can stay mad at Mickey when the Castle comes into view? We'd been to MK already for E-Night, but somehow knowing you have the entire day ahead of you feels special in it's own way. However, we soon realized we'd been spoiled by E-night... Space Mt. had an 80 minute wait, Pooh was closed for cleaning, and with the heat beating down on my frozen skull I was just a tiny bit cranky. Plus, my Mole Mattress was rubbing painfully and unless I wanted to look like a cowboy who'd been riding too long there was no way for me to walk without irritation at every step.
We did what there was to do in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and as we were leaving Buzz, Ben caught sight of a trash can that was either possessed or remote controlled. It was spinning around, following people, running after small children... so of course Ben had to get in on the act. He and some other boys probably spent 10 minutes absorbed in the thrill of it all and I stood there thinking '1100 miles, thousands of dollars, and a year of planning so our kids can be entertained by a trash can.'
The trash can led us over to Cosmic Rays, so we went in for lunch. We stood in line, noticing that our only choices were burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs and chicken nuggets. Sheesh! Too tired to find another restaurant, we ordered burgers and stood there waiting.
The semi-elderly man ahead of me got his order and I moved forward when he left. A moment later he came back, soaking wet and mad as a wet hen. He'd nearly stepped on a small child who'd sprawled herself out on the floor. I asked how good his aim had been, but he said he was afraid he'd hurt her. I wished him better luck next time and said a little cold pop never hurt any child and it might have been a good lesson. I noticed him snickering as he walked away with full cups, but I didn't hear a screech so I guess the little girl had moved, thus avoiding a cold, wet revenge.
On the way out after we'd finished eating we happened to notice there were a couple of counters on either side of the Burger counter. We rolled our eyes, but it was too late. Next time we'll know there are soups, salads, etc. to be had, if we'd just taken the time to look around.
We did a few more attractions and then decided we were really too tired and cranky to keep going so we went back to the pool for a rest. It refreshed us enough to enable us to spend the evening at Epcot, so off we went.
DH was bent on getting a sword in China, so he trotted off while I took Ben to the Cantina for a bite of dinner. Standing in line I absently scanned the tables to see if one was open. A gentleman seated with his family caught my eye as I was scanning and gave me a smile. I smiled back wondering if I knew him. Must be a DIS-er! But there was no lime green ribbon (I had mine on), so I racked my brain trying to figure out who he was. I looked again and he gave me a little wink. Now I was really confused. Not only did I know him but I must know him well!
I stood there staring like an idiot when I realized I didn't know this guy at all! He was just flirting with me, and his wife realized it about the same time I did. She elbowed him visciously, and as I took our tray of food I realized the only table open was the one right next to them. Now I had a choice. I could either sit in the chair facing him or sit with my back to him. It was a no brainer. Eye contact can be avoided, but that other chair was within striking distance.
Ben ate two kids meal burritos and we walked down to meet DH at China. We caught Tapestry of Nations again, played around in the stores a bit and then headed off for one last ride on Test Track. The FastPasses were all gone so we waited 20 minutes in line and screamed with delight through our last spin around the track. As we walked through the shop at the end of the ride DH decided to buy a travel mug for our Stock guy. Ben and I got to talking with CM Kat and CM Al.
CM Kat got a little glimmer in her eye and said to Ben "Did you like the ride?" He said "YES!" (it's one of his favorites) and she smiled that wonderful smile of hers and said "Wanna ride it again?" She took some passes out from behind the counter and handed them to Ben. She told us to go back through the shop and up some stairs. We'd be able to ride again without waiting. YIPPEE!!
So we went up the stairs, looked into "the tower" at the top of the stairs... the control room for the ride... and then down the other side to the loading area. Ben kept telling everyone we had Re-ride passes and didn't have to wait, like they did. I tried to shush him, but honestly felt the same way. I was just glad he didn't add the 'nah nah na nah nah...' at the end.
That last trip around was the best yet, made even better by being such a surprise given by such nice people. We thanked CM Kat and CM Al on the way out and ended our day happy, laughing, and full of the Magic.
