Clearing out PM question

Hi,

I have went through the threads about deleting PM's and still have a question. When I go to the main forum page, at the bottom of the page, it tells me I have 0 unread and 13 total. How do I get rid of the 13? On the page in my folders, there is no delete button. What am I doing wrong
