Cleaning

Cleaning-Neverending
Favorite Tip: Cleaning the microwave

I do this tip, but I never read about adding lemon juice. That's a great idea. What also works really well in the microwave is one of those plastic plate covers. They are very inexpensive. It keeps the microwave from getting as messy in the first place. I just keep mine in the microwave so I always use it. You wouldn't believe the difference it has made.

We have wood floors in most of the house too- what do you use to clean them? We built this house last year and I am still trying to find a good way to clean them and make the shine

We use a bit of Murphy's Oil Soap with water. In my kitchen/laundry, I have custom cabinets and the lower cabinets have legs like a furniture piece. Because of this, just getting down on hands/knees to do the job is required to get into the nooks and crannies.

It depends - are your floors "real hardwood" or "laminate wood" floors. (I clean spec houses for a large homebuilder so I clean a LOT OF FLOORS in a week) You have to be more careful with the laminate and not use a lot of water - the BONA cleaning system works best for laminate. For real hardwoods - I use the swiffer wet jet for hardwoods. --- but for a quick touch up on either use a few sprays of windex (the plain old blue kind) and a damp microfiber rag.

Daily I:
-do dishes
-clean up around the cats dishes
-scoop the litter box
-make the bed
-wipe off the stove and sink

On Wednesdays I:
-Do laundry
- clean the bathroom
-vaccuum
-dust

Saturdays I:
-do laundry
-change the sheets
-swiffer the floors
-vacuum
-completely change the litter box

Twice a month I:
-scrub the bathtub
-pour drain cleaner in the tub and sinks
-mop the floor
-wash the curtains
-wash the matress pads

Cleaning and laundry. This is all I do. The more I clean the more the house gets mesier.

Wait, hey, did I post this? Seriously, cleaning and picking up is all I have done since school got out!

We live in a ranch (one story house). I start at one end and work through each room as I go past. The next day I start at the other end of the house.

Yesterday I started at the bedrooms, and today I'll start at the mudroom.

I am sassy, so if my DH and my kids teased me, guess what? I would be stopping most of it and letting them do it. ha ha

I have tried fly lady but just can not get into it. The one tip I did learn from fly lady is swish and swipe. I have a pouff in the tub and a bottle of body wash that I really don't like. While I'm still in the shower I use the body wash on the pouff and wipe down the walls of the shower and the tub. I rinse with the shower head and I have not had to scrub for a very long time. Daily or every second day maintenance is really easy.

Now, if I could just do other stuff every day I'd be doing really well.

Very happy to see this thread so I can find out how other people clean. I feel like the more organize I try to be, the more stuff I'm doing and when Monday rolls around, I feel like I haven't gotten anything done.

With 3 young boys, my whole life is cleaning and the laundry is NEVER ending!!! I make my own laundry soap to save money since I have to wash ALL the time.:laundy::laundy::laundy::laundy::laundy:

My late grandmother always used to say: "If your dishes are done, the beds are made, and the floors have been swept, anyone who comes into your home will consider it clean..";)

Sometimes I clean everything - every day - other times I don't.. But - I pretty much follow my grandma's rule on a daily basis so I don't feel uncomfortable if someone drops by unexpectedly..:goodvibes

I hate that feeling. I try and do stuff on Friday nights (like laundry) and on Sundays I have a few chores that I like to do, so I feel like I'm starting the week off with a clean house...but I don't like spending all day cleaning!!

Trash day is Monday morning, so I HAVE to do trash on Sunday night!

I totally agree with your grandmother!! I used to think that everything had to be absolutly spotless and if it wasn't I was hard on myself. I often have to remind myself that I have 3 young children and we do live in our home so therefore it is ok if it isn't sparkling clean just as long as it is clean. YKWIM

Cleaning and laundry. This is all I do. The more I clean the more the house gets mesier.

This is true, I have conducted this experiment at my house. Did not clean all week and the house looked the same as it does the day after I clean. I wonder sometimes why I clean everyday, by 6:00 PM it is a mess.

A neat trick I recently started using is the old plastic credit card or any plastic card for scrubbing works great on pans an safe for the nonstick pans as well, that scum we all get on table an countertop that we can feel but not see.

I have a tiny space between stove an countertop not even 1/4 th inch wide an I forever spilling an droppin food in that crack the plastic card was just the thing to clean the gunk there.

I take some tinfoil and put in the space so if you spill just pick up the tinfoil and throw it away. No spill save it for the next time. Jo
