We have our first DVC trip booked and upcoming in a 2 bedroom suite at VGC. Are we required to do any cleaning on check out or is this all done by mousekeeping upon our departure?

Housekeeping does it for you. If we have any dirty dishes we put them in the DW and start it but you don't have to. We usually leave dirty towels in the tub.

Enjoy your stay.

Start the dishwasher as soon as you finish breakfast. If you wait until you leave the room there is the possibility that the running dishwasher could delay the next guest check in and/or a revisit buy the Mousekeeper.

agreed.........run the dishwasher, pull the sheets, toss the sheets and towels in the washing machine, and start it up. have fun!

Yes, run the dishwasher. But please DON'T "toss the sheets and towels in the washing machine, and start it up."

The sheets and towels are commercially laundered at a central facility. Throwing the sheets and towels in the washing machine means that the housekeeper has to deal with wet sheets and towels.

Leave the sheets on the beds and the towels in the bathrooms.

We usually wash all our dishes and pick up our towels. That's about it!

We load and start the dishwasher.

We also empty all of the trash (and empty the fridge if we have leftover food and drinks).

If we have unopened food and drinks, we leave it in the room. We throw all opened stuff away.

How would starting the dishwasher as you leave delay another guest. :confused3

Housekeeping has to come in and clean that room and if they can clean it and be out before the dishwasher has finished its cycle then we know why the rooms are not clean.

And to OP, yes we always empty the frig and take out the trash.

You are only required to be out of the room by 11am. They can do the rest...

However, it's pretty much agreed on the DIS that the more we can do to help them, the faster the rooms should turn over. Hence the easy things to do while checking that we've left nothing behind are: strip the beds, place sheets and towels into the tubs. Load up the dishwasher and run (in studios I scrub the glasses and leave them upside down on a paper towel - up to them if they want to rewash them.)

I also bag up and tie the trash & put the bins back where they belong as I tend to move them about.

Whattt???????? why in the world would you do the linens? They are just going to send them off to be done by the resort laundry.

We stay in a Studio. Towles in the tub - all trash out. I shut of the mini-fridge and lay a bath towel down in case the defrost runs over. This save the cleaning crew the time of waiting for the fridge to defrost.

According to Disney, they do not want you to turn off the mini-fridge. Ours was off a week ago and water leaked across the floor. The Mousekeeper probably just scooped up the towel if one was left.

I always tell the housekeeper that I have shut it off - usually I have them come in the room and show them. I am always running late and I want to save them as much time as possible.

It would be better to just turn your 'frig' to a lower(est) setting; the next guest will thank you.

I also do not understand turning off the fridge. We stayed 4 days last week in a studio at OKW, and this actually caused a problem for us. My wife is on a yearlong cancer treatment that requires her medicine to be kept refrigerated. When we checked in, the fridge was off and flooded at the bottom.

I had to run get ice quickly to keep her medicine chilled until the fridge got cold enough.

People - when a Studio is cleaned on a check-out the mousekeeper is to defrost the fridge - do you really think the guests defrost the fridge. If you check-in and the fridge is off - well, the mousekeeper turned it off and didn't remember to go back and turn it on. I really didn't mean this to become a debate. So next time I will not try and help the process. If you check into a Studio with water on the floor or the fridge off - remember it was the mousekeeper, not a previous guest.

If you use a pullout, leave it pulled out. Some people strip the sheets and throw them in the tub (or just on top of the bed). I think that there is a small chance that if the couch is all folded up, Mousekeeping will forget to check and change the sheets and the next guest will get a surprise, so we leave ours out.

We empty all the cupboards that had "our stuff" in it (but leave things in the fridge for Mousekeeping to toss, just in case the room doesn't turn over that day). Again, I think that there is a small chance Mousekeeping will forget to open up all the cupboard doors to check and toss - and you don't want my open box of Froot Loops. Plus, I'll likely find granola bars that we can take for the flight :)

We run the dishwasher.

We don't strip beds, in fact, I make them loosely because we don't want to leave a teddy bear or tshirt in the bed. Towels that we are using do go into the tub, but I don't move every towel into the tub, just the ones cluttering up the bathroom - again, this is more for me so my moisturizer doesn't get left underneath a towel.

Most of our tidy is about making sure we aren't leaving things behind, but in an effort to not leave things behind, the room gets tidied.

We take all leftover opened food to the trash room. We leave unopened things on the counter for mousekeeping and if there are unused refrigerator items we leave a note with our tip so mousekeeping doesn't forget to take them. We don't leave the pullout open if we have used it (it is in the way) but we always strip it and leave the sheets and blanket in a pile on one end so mousekeeping knows it was used. Towels go in tub, dishwasher gets loaded and started. Bed is left unmade. I don't know if any of this makes a huge difference but I like to think that it does help a little.

If I'm the next guest, and I didn't realize that someone had messed with the temperature setting, I would be rather upset if the fridge did not properly cool milk and other perishables.

Turning the fridge off is even worse. A warm, wet interior leads to mold and smells.

Just leave the fridge alone, please. The housekeeper will do what needs to be done to clean it, without letting the fridge warm up for an extended period.

I agree!!!
We also run the dishwasher and put the towels in the tub, empty cabinets and tie up the trash. The other thing to do is to throw out the used soap and shampoo from the tub/shower
