I hate this job. He has so many things that are too small now- it just reminds me how much older he's getting. Plus, it's boring and tedious. :headache:

I agree 100%!

Not to mention I always have to do it when the kids are out of the house or else I can't get rid of anything; suddenly everything is "that's my favorite--don't get rid of that yet!"

Oh yeah- His "I'm allergic to my sister" shirt is WAY too small and it's going, but he is going to be MAD. LOL

Yep. DS is now 16 -- I deep clean his room every summer when he's at camp. Enjoy it now, because as your DS gets older -- you'll feel like you need to use rubber gloves.....

I know a lot of people that save t-shirts, especially from sporting events and what not, and make them into a quilt they can take to college. I thought about doing that but I can't quilt :lmao:.

I used to cry every time I had to pack away my oldest dd's clothes (dh thought I was crazy). I don't cry anymore, but now that I have three kids going through their clothes and getting rid of the stuff that is stained or outgrown is a chore that I absolutely despise!!

OP - I feel your pain! I spent most of Sunday and yesterday weeding through my kids' drawers and closets (I tried to do it when they were playing outside and oblivious to what was happening). Oldest dd is now wearing size 10-12 and still refuses to let me toss her silk ducky pjs that are a size 6!

I just laughed when I read what his shirt said! :lmao:

I totally agree I absolutely hate it. I use to get very emotional with my first one who is now 13 but not anymore. Luckily when my little one out grows her clothes I have a friend who I can give the better ones to she has a daughter that is one year younger. My older one's clothes I still keep for her sister although at this point she really is not outgrowing her clothing too much anymore.

The absolutely worst one is my darling husband! I have to throw away his clothes when they get all worn out. He had this one shirt that had more holes than not and he would not throw it away. I had to do it when he was not looking. :rolleyes1

Yep. DH has a T-shirt "collection." These are shirts from the 70's and 80's which should have been made into dustcloths THEN. I tried (rather unsuccessfully) to explain that a "collection" is something that has a chance of going UP in value. Old college registration T-shirts do NOT have a chance of going up in value.

def save those t-shirts for a quilt.. super easy to make! I also stitch the neck and arm holes closed and trim and stitch the bottom and add a pillow form. They make great throw pillow.

I am always amazed at how many sizes I find. Even though we just cleaned out the closet, I find pants from 3-4 years ago.

The quilt is out- but the pillow thing I think I can do! Thanks!!

I have tshirts saved in boxes from when my kids were really small for this very purpose. I don't quilt, so I plan on finding someone to pay to do it. I was planning on having one made when they are a little older than college though, don't think they would still appreciate it enough. I don't think they get nostalgic until they're a little older.
I LOVE this idea, it makes me tear up just thinking about it!

But yeah, Mermaid02, I know, I need to clean out my DS' closet too. He won't let me get rid of anything even though a lot is too small. I gave one of his favorite tshirts to my DD to wear since I knew it was way too small and is unisex, and when she wore it the other week, holy cow! he made her take it off and put it back in his drawer, lol! :headache:

I gave my DS's room 90 minutes today. You can now see his dresser top again, but it's too hot and I don't want to turn on the AC, so I'll pick up again tomorrow... probably with rubber gloves. His room is certifiably disgusting.

Jack's room is too. I told my dh NO MORE SUNFLOWER SEEDS..... they are all over his room...... we're lucky we don't have mice! The child (13) is a total slob.

It's clean on the surface, now maybe I can get a deeper clean next week.

I go through my DS12's stuff whenever the seasons change because the child wouldn't say a word even if he outgrew every stitch of clothes in his closets and amke sure I replace all undies and socks every year when school starts for the same reason.

DS now has wood Asthma-friendly floors which do stay cleaner, thank goodness Food is not allowed but when I find fruit flies I get to play find the old apple core or banana skins, yuck.

The clean outs are not an easy job but if i didn't do it the kid would still have his "My first Disney T-shirt" in his closet (instead of it being packed away in my kids' baby shrine to be made into quilts someday - shhhh, don't tell).

The sunflower seeds were on our front porch, so at least he didn't eat them in his room. The squirrels were happy for the whole seeds that were mixed into the pile o' shells.

I assigned the job of cleaning those to my DD yesterday. The porch looks nice now. (The only reason DS didn't do it himself was because after school he had a football game and didn't get home until after 7 and then had to do homework. When he was finished with that, he took out all the trash and then collapsed into bed.)

Can I just tell you how thrilled I am that school is back in session?
