Clay Aiken

I believe that the wording of "refused" was the hosts wording. She also used the word "declined."

I also think that maybe Clay might be trying to distance himself a bit so he won't look like a tag-a-long with Ruben. EVERY show that Ruben has been on(as far as I know) Clay had either been on with him or the next day. Maybe Clay wants to do some appearances on his own and at the same time let Ruben get the "glory" he deserves.

I wish that Clay had won but they are both great and I will support both of them and if the results had been reversed I would have felt the same way.

Ruben and Clay were brought up differently and have different personalities. Maybe Clay is more articulate but Ruben is more laid back. I am sure with time Ruben will get better at the interviews. Sounds like to me like he is being honest when he says he is tired!! Ruben speaks like the environment he was brought up in...it is what he knows. The same for Clay.Neither is more right or more wrong it just what they know. I prefer the way Clay conducts himself but I can not "dis" Ruben for the way he acts or conducts interviews.

I was not dissing Ruben for how he speaks nor implying anything about how he was brought up. I just find that when Clay is being interviewed he says something. Ruben, while he does come across as a nice guy, doesn't say anything.

And you're right he probably is tired. However, he just won this fantastic competition and he projects no enthusiasm what so ever. Clay is probably tired too!!

The management team definitely needs to work on his interviewing style. And this is something that will come in time.

Sorry but I was not directing my comments on what you wrote...I was commenting on the WHOLE thread.Even though I posted directly under yours that does not mean my comments were directed at you or anyone else. Just trying to add "another way of looking at things"

Honeywolf...THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

Sorry mum4jenn,

When you mentioned Clay being articulate and Ruben's being tired, I took it as though you were referring to what I had written in my post.

What I want to know is how these people got through and voted 200 times! Rubens Mom said she voted 200 times and was trying for 205. I tried voting for Clay for the whole 3 hours and only got through 1 time!!! I got a lot of messages telling me the number was out of service. Hang up. redial and get a busy signal. I think I got the "out of service" message 1 out of every 6 or 7 calls. Did anyone else experience this problem?

I like listening to Ruben sing..but I really wanted Clay to win.

Same here Nancy,

I tried continuously for the full 3 hours and only got 4 votes in. For Clay of course. I got that "out of service" message 1 out of every 10 calls. I figure I must have called several thousand times because I just kept hitting redial each time.

"Yikes! Get me out of here.............."

LOL , Don't take it personal Steve but Clay fans are really dedicated to him!! As if you couldn't tell!! I just love that we have a performer who is true to his upbringing and passion, to say nothing of the VOICE!!

I think Clay is 10 times better then Ruben as a singer and
he was robbed. Iam sure he will come out on top.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

I had to tape Regis and Kelly because I was at school...I guess education is slightly more important than clay.:p Did anyone else notice that he messed up the words to Bridge over Troubled Water? He started singing the words to the first verse at the beginning of the second, and had to switch after about 2 words.

I still think they need to do something else with the voting. Maybe limit to one call per phone number and allow voting by computer with a one vote limit. I tried for the whole time to vote for Clay and never could get through. All I got was a busy signal...not even the message of all circuits busy.

Both will do well. At this point and time it does not matter any longer who won ,who came in second or any of the other things mentioned in this thread or any other threads. The media is still trying to make a big stink out of it all too. It is too bad. Weeks and weeks ago most of the public had already determined that Ruben and Clay would be in the top two...well, that happened. They Both got what they wished for, what they worked for and what they deserved. It is now up to them as to which one has the most success. Actually it should not even remain a competition with sales etc. With the kind of music they prefer singing they will have different audiences anyway so does it all really matter anymore?????

We can't even go by "What ifs" because .....What IF Frenchie had remained on the show?? She has an amazing voice as well as Kimberly. They all just have different voices and to better with different type music. ALL of them will do well.

Yeah we noticed the slip! Its that darn suit(he wore it during Vincent!) Supposedly he has been recording Bridge for the CD and thats the full version. He started singing the second verse instead of the shortened version that was on the show. It must be confusing having to keep track of different versions of the same song. I thought he recovered nicely though!

Did anyone else feel strange this past Tuesday with no AI on?

I'm glad to hear that Clay's cd will be out soon. I'll definitely be watching for it.

Steve, instead of getting defensive, perhaps you could explain the basis for your statement. I think we’re just a little confused as to why you would say that, since none of us has seen a hint of evidence that Clay isn’t acting with class. You must have some information we don’t have. BTW, I didn’t really have a preference as far as who won since they were both wonderful, and they still have an equal chance at a career. I’m kind of surprised that people still haven’t gotten over this.

OK I'm back.....

I just heard a lot of talk on the radio this morning about how
Clay is popping up everywhere, giving interviews, and his story
keeps changing about what happened during the final show.

Let Reuben have his moment in the sun, quit trying to steal his thunder.

I don't recall the runner-up of the first AI acting this way.

As far as the voting goes, being able to vote multiple times is
a crock. It comes down to who's got the fastest dialing finger, and who's luckey about getting through.

How does one person being able to vote 300 times represent America? (I'm trying hard not to mention anything about Chicago politics :) )

If you make it to the final two, you're a winner, but Reuben DID win, so give him his moment.

:D :D :D :D be gentle

I think the voting process is ridiculous too. Why oh why can’t they limit it to one vote? About Clay turning up everywhere, I’m sure he just goes wherever his “handlers” tell him to go. And I think the reason this didn’t happen last year was because nobody cared about Justin because he STINKS (IMHO). I think they’re trying to keep Ruben and Clay on equal footing because it was really too close to call. They both deserved to win.

Funny - I have almost every interview on tape and his story has never fluctuated.

Clay doesn't do his own bookings, his management company does, so apparently they want him on all these interviews.

I don't recall the runner-up of the first AI acting this way.

Justin was never as popular as Clay. The vote between Kelly and Justin was something like 60% - 40% nowhere near the closeness that Ruben and Clay had 50.28% to 49.72%

Hope that helps clear some things up

ok, I'm obviously a Clay fan and I think he should have won, but I'm not being obsessive about it or anything, because it's over...so far it's looking like it didn't matter anyway.

I just heard a lot of talk on the radio this morning about how Clay is popping up everywhere, giving interviews, and his story

I just wanted to say that I think that's really strange, because I was actually starting to get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again about the final show! I haven't heard him change anything:confused:

I don't think Clay is doing anything wrong, because, like someone else said earlier in this thread, his producers most likely have total control over what he's doing. With the final vote being so close, I think they're being pretty smart to be giving him almost as much publicity as Ruben, because he obviously has a lot of fans. It's ultimately going to make the producers of american idol even richer.

Clay is not the one scheduling the interviews. He does what they ask him to do.Kelly and Justin were both interviewed the same as Clay and Ruben are, nothing has changed.the truth will be in who sells the most singles and we know who that will be:p .i just think that the wrong person won and i know Clay will make it alot further in life than Ruben.
