I am pretty claustrophobic, but can manage on Back to the Future at Universal Studios. Can anyone tell me if Mission Space is more claustrophobic than Back to the Future or is it comparable in terms of being "enclosed".

Thanks!

Let's put it this way: It's like being inside a small closet with 3 other people . .

Yes it deffinately is worse very cramped and that is the least of it's problems in my personal view. and, getting out early is NOT an option.

The area of the "cockpit" in Mission:Space is considerably smaller than that of the Back to the Future cars. Granted though, I think that you get so involved in the ride you won't realize it.

Either way, the only way to beat a phobia is to face it. ;)

If you are even somewhat claustrophobic then I would avoid Mission Space. My wife does not like small enclosed spaces, and she started having a panic attack at the beginning of the mission (I was able to calm her). I am not at all claustrophobic, but even I thought it was very close (a MRI scan is almost roomy in comparison). You are in a very confining seat, with a video screen inches from your face, and with three other people crammed in next to you.

I thought it was an interesting ride: but I would never do it again. My wife swore on Tinkerbell's head that she would never even enter that building again. I wonder how long Space Mission will last if it gets few repeat riders (I know it gets some; but I bet the percentage is NOTHING like Space Mountain, et al).

Myself & my older kids (20,23,& 25) all loved the ride and have riden it more than once and plan to again. If we are in a minority, that means less wait time to ride again. =0)

As for the space inside, I agree, it is very tight. While you may be able to get past that, I think it is something you should consider. I guess it would also depend on your level of claustrophobia.
Good luck either way.

Diane

Whoa. No repeat riders? Dbf rode 4 times when we went and would have went more had we not been doing other things.

It is more cramped than Back to the Future. You are completely enclosed.

The worse ride for this problem was "20,000 leagues under the sea", which has been closed now for years. I believe they had too many people going into a panic on that one. I have similar problems but never experienced it on the "Back to the Future" ride. I had to do a lot of talking to myself on "20,000 leagues under the sea". I miss Horizon and World of Motion with their open cars to ride in.

The sitting is pretty tight but if you focus in own the screen it does help. They also have air that blows on you that seems to help. Mission to Space will have plenty of repeat riders. I remember people that swore they wouldn't go on TT or RNRC again but that doesn't seem to affect the lines.

MS is much more enclosed than Back to the Future as stated in ea rlier posts. I've never been dizzy or had motion sickness of any sort. I've never been bothered by any confined space (used to fly a little 4-seater airplane)...but when that restraint came over my head and the screen moved toward me, literally had to will myself to not scream. Barely made it through the ride with my DS6 and DS10. Wasn't about to freak out in front of them and I won't try it again. Loved the post-ride area.

I'm claustrophobic and i was a little freaked out when i first got in but then...when ever they turned on the screens i was fine...it's an amazing ride...try to ride it:wave:

I, too, am claustrophobic (don't even really like elevators) and I nearly went into a panic attack when the doors of the space capsule closed! I begged my DH (for about 10 secs) to find an attendant but, of course, there's no way out once the doors close. I just tried to focus on the screens and the "story" and not panic any more (or, rather, any worse). It was nearly H*$@ for me and I will never put myself through the trauma again.

That said, my DH and DD love the ride and will do it again and again.

Just wondering if it is possible for someone to skip the ride and still see the post-ride area??

Definately you can skip the ride and see the post ride area. If there are others in your group, you can wait in line with them, then be shown to the Advanced training lab instead of getting into the simulator. If you're alone, you can skip the line and enter the building through the shop(exit) and go to the Advanced Training Lab.

Thanks! This is what we'll plan to do.
