Does anyone know if it is possible to leave all the theater type shows once they have started? I sometimes have problems being clausterphobic, and the thought of being "trapped" in a theater is scary. I know you can leave ITTBAB, VOTLM, and O Canada, but is this the rule or the exception? I can handle being confined a little better if I know I can leave when I want to.

I think there are marked areas to leave every theater...per fire code it must be...

Basically, yes. There's always a way for a parent to leave with a "noisy" child; at many movies, they even mention what to do / where to go if you have to leave during the presentation.

Also, you should identify the exit doors upon entering, then try to sit in a row that will put you close to them.

Be well!

I have the same problem. Some of the shows are in outside type shows so not a problem. Tarzan Rocks will not like you to leave where the skaters go so try to sit on the far outside of a row or at the top. The one place that really got me was the COP. It moves (or feels like it) which made me think I could not exit it. (is this true by the way?) I have not been on it since. I just sat with my mini fan and thought get tot he future already! The other one that bothered me was the American show in Epcot. Thought it would be shrt but seemed to go way too long and anytime I am in a place too long get that feeling that i want out. I had no problem leaving early thoug at that one.

I"m pretty sure that you can exit just about any ride if you have a problem. CMs would probably help you get out if you got panicked.

vmkids - Yep, the CoP was "revolutionary" (pun intended) for it's time. The center stage remains stationary, and the audiences rotate from scene to scene. I can't see an easy way for someone to get out - maybe the CMs have a big red "Panic Stop" button somewhere....

Thanks, glad to know that i was not panicking for nothing! Won't be telling the newbies of the family trip in May about this one. I will tell them it is a gift shop! :rotfl: Okay, don't flame me... I'll tell them it is not my favorite. ;)

 Then slowly move on to a more enjoyable ride for the paranoid!

Yes you can leave....just make sure you dont get stuck in the middle of a row of seats!

Maxiesmom, just FYI if you go to Disney Quest, let them know you are claustrophobic, otherwise the 45 second ride to the 3rd floor will seem like an eternity. My mother almost didn't make it.

Hi,
Do they let you take the stairs at Disney quest? Is the elevator small? I hate elevators, don't mind walking up the stairs for 3 floors.
Thanks

I would be very adamant about letting them know you will not get into an elevator. The elevator is normal sized, but there is a "show". The ride is only a couple seconds, but they hold you in there in the beginning, cramped with lots of people and you watch a "movie" in the elevator starring Genie from Aladin. I can handle it, but my mother just bearly made it there. There is an exit, that they could let you enter on the 1st floor and you could take the steps up to 3rd floor venturport.

We got stuck between floors for an hour in the Disneyquest elevator. It took 30 minutes to get a voice in the elevator to say they knew we were there and were sending help. The fire department had to come and put a ladder into the elevator so that we could climb on top of the elevator and then climb out and down another ladder. It was not fun!!!

We were two families with one 6 yr. old child who was very upset and with a full bladder!

All they did was offer us free passes to DisneyQuest. Big whoop! I never want to go back there again!!!

If there are stairs...take them!

The indoor theater shows (like American Adventure, Little Mermaid, the 3D movies) all have you enter a "holding room, preshow area" and when the doors open into the theater, you will be close to one end of the rows of seats. Their effecient way of loading and unloading attractions means that the exit is set up at the other end of the rows of seats. So when you come into a theater, just follow all the way to the other end of the row and you will automatically be in the seats closest to the exit. All the attractions have marked exits (fire rules), so you will be able to get out.

For COP, there are exit doors at the back of the theater. The theaters spin around, but the only time you would not be able to leave is during the short time when "your" theater is moving around the circle between stages.

For the rides (like Pirates, Small World, etc), they have exits, but since the ride is moving and you are in a ride car; the exits are only accessible if they are stopping the ride for an evacuation. One attraction to be aware of is Ellen's Energy Adventure. The whole experience is long (almost 45 minutes) and thru most of it you are in a ride car that would be difficult to exit. You will see marked exit signs thru the whole show though, if that helps you.

I honestly think that someone claustrophobic would have more trouble in the pre-show areas ie Test Track, Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror. The theaters are large and have plenty of exits. No problem leaving at all. Oh, It's Tough to be a Bug preshow area might be hard also.

Stitch's Great Escape - I'm not sure if you can leave that theatre once the show has started....

I am VERY claustrophobic and I have had only a few problems at WDW;

Mission:Space is HORRIBLE for anyone who is claustrophobic!!! I was very close to a panic attack (which I have never had, only get close when I feel closed in). I got off and went to pieces.

Another problem that I had was the busses...when the park is closing, and the busses are crowded, I CAN'T sit, I have to stand, otherwise I feel like everyone is closing in on me.

Oh and the elevator in CRT going from the waiting area to the dining room-VERY, VERY small. I can normally ride elevators, but that one was way too crowded with only myself and 3 other people.

There are several rides that have signs warning that the ride may effect claustrophobic people and I have only had that be true a few times. I also ONLY go to WDW on off-crowded times so the waiting areas, busses, etc. won't be as crowded...it really makes me panic. BTW, I have been in the Canada and China exhibits and I have been in ITTBAB and PhilarMagic and have not been effected by the waiting area (again, not at full capacity).

oh boy that( dq) creeps me out just thinking about it. thanks for the warning as i never would have thought it.

op i am pretty claustrophobic but really havent had a problem in any of the shows..usually there is light of some sort, theareas are very large and have high ceilings. the worst is getting into the shows where the waiting areas are usually kind of cave like. i try to get there a while preshow and get to the very front of the line...there is line you have to stand behind so the doors will open so that gives a nice amount of spce between you and the doors( just don't turn around or you will see everyone crowded in behind you)..ttbab i hovered around the entrance till it was almost time to go in as the doors are kind of in a little cave like area. if you have a problem while waiting i would mention it to the cm and they probably could help you. like call you in after the doors are open or something

i was amazed but i had no problem with ms.. i a) never watch the doors close and b) just looked at the screen ie my eyes were glued to it from the second i sat down. you feel air blowing on you so just don't think about it being tight quarters. imo it's much easier to handle than the old 20,000 leagues( or tom saywer caves :scared: ..now they are a real nightmare!

Back when this was alien encounter, I made a quick decision to by pass this ride right before they had all the guests loaded into their seats. It was a little embarrising, but I couldn't stand the idea of being locked down in those seats in that little room so the CM kindly showed me the way out as the show was getting ready to start. Once it starts, I don't see them letting you out of that one unless you really freak out!

Oh, and by the way, if you don't like small, tight spaces, DO NOT ride Mission Space! I don't know how I made it through that one!!! :earseek:

I felt the same way - I'm mildly claustrophobic, but I can handle M:S, which is amazing to me. I just really really wanted to ride it, which is the only reason I ever psyched myself up enough to try it in the first place. I agree that the air blowing on your face is a big help, and I also start playing with all the buttons and switches right away to give me something else to think about. Once the ride starts, I think the "vastness of space" on the screen in front of me is also a help.

On the other hand, I have a terrible time with the Tower of Terror. It took me years to get up my nerve to ride it (including one time when I actually got on, but I started to sweat and felt awful before the ride even started. My teenage daughter called for the CM who came and let me off). Last year when my hubby was there I managed to get through it by keeping a death grip on him the whole time. It's not the ride that bothers me so much - it's being shut up in that elevator! I don't know what I'd do if I was ever on there when it shut down. I don't even like to think about it.
