DS's 8th birthday is next Saturday and I'm trying to figure out what to bring for his classroom birthday treat this week. DS doesn't like nuts, and there's a girl in his class that allergic to chocolate?? I'm having a hard time coming up with anything other than cupcakes. It seems like everyone brings cupcakes, so I wanted to figure out something different if possible (the kids probably wouldn't care though..)Does anyone have any other ideas? I've searched the internet, and can't really find anything else.

TIA,
Jaimee

How about rice krispy treats? Easy to make and not messy to eat.

Or you could make a different type of cookie. Spice (my kids and their friends love them)?

Blow pops always seem to go over well! Maybe not so much with the teachers, but the kids love them. So do those long super ropes of licorice.

Thanks for the ideas. I must be much too focused on chocolate :teeth: I never even thought of other types of cookies or candy lol. I think I just got frustrated because I found a cute cookie idea and then DS told me this other girl was allergic to chocolate and never gets to have a birthday treat because everyone brings in chocolate cupcakes.

I feel your pain... well that is a little much --- I understand your deliema --

DD's kindergarten class has 2 peanut allergies, 2 soy allergies (soybean oil), 1 milk allergy, 1 chocolate allergy and 2 children that can't have anything sticky due to dental problems (no fruit snacks-gummies etc).

So I am subscribing to get new snack/treat ideas!!

Check with your teacher first, she may have some good suggestions. In our area we had a kindergartener choke to death recently at school and the schools are becoming more concerned with what is being eated/given at school. I'm a kindergarten aide and we really try to stear away from candy being eaten at our school unless it is a holiday party.

I am a first grade teacher, and the students in my class like to bring Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They also bring a hat from Krispy Kreme for each student (free with the doughnuts). Do you ahve this where you live? Doughnuts are usually a big hit!

What about some sort of an ice cream treat - like those little ice cream cup thingies with the lids that come off?

Or - if you are able to help out with the treat, what about little root beer floats? (Just thinking that the teacher wouldn't have the time/patience to do this alone)

Krispy Kreme donuts were a big hit at my DD's school for a while.

a variation on cupcakes - instead of baking the cupcake in a traditional cupcake pan and wrapper, use ice cream cones. Fill ice cream cones 2/3 full, set the cones on a baking sheet (or better, use cupcake or muffin pans to help balance the cones), and bake for ~20 minutes (toothpick test for doneness). Decorate with frosting and sprinkles. A quick search revealed a recipe online at http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party_classroom.htm

I'm wondering if you could cut Rice Krispie treats into a cute shape (with a cookie cutter), add vanilla icing and sprinkles of some kind. Could be festive.

We encourage decorated sugar cookies in our class. I think the donuts are a great idea too. I took Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies when my DD was the Star of the Week and the teacher told me it was the biggest hit snack of the year!

My son (who has a peanut allergy), always asks to bring in Krispy Kreme donuts. On two separate occasions, I've had a teacher "compliment" on this saying that the donuts were a "nice change."

I don't know if they're okay with a peanut allergy, but Dunkin Donuts Munchkins are a big staple at class parties here..if there are no cupcake,s you can count on Munchkins. :thumbsup2
Just don't get the chocolate ones.

Wow we weren't ever allowed to bring in home made stuff! Do they still allow it at some schools?

One of the biggest treats in our class is fresh fruit on a straw! Each child got a straw with a strawberry, a piece of melon and a few grapes. Along with it, the mom sent in some yogurt for dipping. We just put a spoon of yogurt on a small paper plate for each child to 'dip" their fruit in.

Other suggestions: A bag of Nacho Chips and a jar of Salsa. Send in some paper plates and spoon out the Salsa and put chips on the plate. My class LOVES that, too!

Crazy Bread, breadsticks and some Ranch Dressing to dip them in!

It can be fun to think outside the box!!! Kids will remember it!

What about something a little on the healthier side. You could do muffins. Or fruit & veggies. Or cheese (use little cookie cutters to cut into shapes) and crackers. Kids love finger foods.

Pudding cups?

We still have homemade treats...no allergies either, thank goodness!
