We currently have my daughter in a montessori school and are happy with it but the school only goes up to 3rd grade. We are considering a private school that teaches through the classical education method for long term. However, it is 30 minutes from our house and I am not sure I can maintain driving that for the next 12 years. If I worked in that town it would be different but just driving there to drop her off and then to pick her up seems like a lot 5 days a week x 12 years.

Homeschooling has always been in the back of my head. But my daughter and I are VERY social and our local home schooling group is not. In fact they never get together for field trips. But still I would consider it if I were able to use the classical education method at home and do it well.

Anyone homeschool using this method? Any advice or thoughts?

Join us in the homeschool chat thread. There is a whole classical HS forum I can direct you to, but not on a public forum. I can PM you.

You might find that sending her to school is best for your situation, but come and ask the homeschoolers because this board can get rather heated when people ask about homeschooling.

Hi!
I'm the "first contact" person for our homeschool group. First, I recommend you read the book So You're Thinking about Homeschooling. It's a great, easy read book that takes you to 15 different families, and gives you a great overview of what a homeschool can look like (they're all different) and what curriculum is available.
We use a curriculum that's part classical education and part literature-rich unit studies called My Father's World. It's working out great!
There are also books on classical education and homeschooling. My Father's World has a workshop (I think it's $4 for the cd) on "What should 21st Christians be Teaching Their Children?" that gives a really good thought on classical education and what actually makes sense to use out of it.
Here are some sites I found for you:
http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/
http://www.classicalhomeschooling.org/
http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/methods/Classical.htm
http://homeschooling.about.com/od/methclassical/Methods_Classical_Education_Method.htm
http://www.welltrainedmind.com/
The last one is probably the best well-known classical education model in homeschooling.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here, on the homeschooling thread, or PM me :)
